* Job Description:
** The Calvert County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a seasoned, strategic, and solutions-driven
** Chief Legal Officer
** to lead the Office of the County Attorney. This position serves as the chief legal advisor to County leadership, providing counsel on complex municipal, legislative, and civil matters that influence the County’s long-term success. This position reports directly to the County Administrator; as well as provides legal advice to the Board of County Commissioners.
The Chief Legal Officer:
* ** Leads and manages
** all operations of the County’s legal office, including supervising attorneys, paralegals, and support staff.
* ** Advises and represents
** the Board of County Commissioners, departments, boards, and agencies on legal and policy issues.
* ** Develops and reviews
** contracts, resolutions, ordinances, and legal opinions.
* ** Coordinates and oversees
** outside counsel and ensures effective representation in litigation and specialized matters.
* ** Directs legislative affairs**—drafting legislation, preparing testimony, and advancing the County’s legislative agenda with state and regional partners.
* ** Mitigates risk
** by anticipating legal and operational challenges and developing strategic, preventative solutions.

** municipal law, public policy, and government operations.
*** Exceptional communication and analytical skills, with the ability to advise decision-makers under pressure.

** Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.

* Experience:
** Seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressively responsible legal experience, including significant management experience in government or related civil practice.

** License to practice law in the
** State of Maryland
** required.

** Subject to background investigation.

*** Salary: **$175,000 – $210,000 annually**, commensurate with experience.
