Formosa Plastics is a privately held company headquartered in Livingston, New Jersey. Our core business, producing plastic resins and petrochemicals, takes place at three wholly-owned chemical manufacturing subsidiaries located in Delaware City, Delaware, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Point Comfort, Texas.
I. POSITION OBJECTIVE
The Paralegal assists attorneys with acquiring information needed to prepare for meetings, conduct legal research, and prepare and review legal documents, contracts, and reports. The role also supports departmental operations, including litigation management, legal billing review, document management, and the use of technology to improve efficiency. This position requires a solid understanding of the litigation process.
II. MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY
Legal Risk Identification, Confidentiality, & Compliance: Proactively identify issues, legal risks, and potential liabilities. Take steps to help ensure that all department matters are dealt with in a timely and organized manner. Keep confidential matters confidential.
Legal Financial Administration & Reporting: Process the payment of certain legal bills as needed. Analyze legal expenses and prepare associated spreadsheets and reports.
Litigation, Legal Documents, Contracts & Correspondence: Assist attorneys with litigation management, including drafting correspondence, organizing and preparing responses to discovery requests, and coordinating depositions of company personnel. Draft certain contracts and correspondence and prepare reports and presentations as needed. Proofread and check legal forms and documents for clerical accuracy and, under the direction of in-house counsel, check for other basic issues on an as-needed basis.
Documentation & Records Management: Assist attorneys in legal researching and drafting, including contracts and confidentiality agreements. Maintain departmental document control, including matter management, department Intranet page, original documents, and approvals.
Legal Department Operations & Support: Provide miscellaneous administrative support to attorneys. Organize office procedures relating to other support staff. Conduct technical training of others in the department and legal-related training for other departments.
THM: Promote cleanliness and order through the implementation of the Total House Keeping Maintenance program. Emphasize Nothing Touch Ground program and No Visual Pollution program. Maintain the plant in like new condition.
