Responsibilities

The procurement and purchasing team members are critical to ensuring production materials are sourced at the lowest cost while maintaining quality standards and consistently delivered on time to meet production schedules.

  • Coordinate at the plant level with corporate procurement and identify and maintain local and regional suppliers to optimize cost, quality, and reliability of the supply chain.
  • Supervise purchasing specialists who coordinate day‑to‑day material and supply purchases.
  • Execute and continuously improve business processes, including mapping, documenting, reengineering, quality assurance, staffing, metrics, controls and risk identification to meet service level expectations.
  • Confers with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, availability, and delivery schedule.
  • Selects products for purchase by testing, observing or examining items.
  • Lead and train staff.
  • Estimate values according to market price knowledge.
  • Determine procurement methods such as direct purchase or bid in collaboration with factory leadership.
  • Review bid proposals and negotiate contracts within budgetary limits and scope of authority.
  • Maintain procurement records of purchased items or services, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.
  • Discuss defective or unacceptable goods or services with inspection or quality assurance personnel, users, vendors, and others to identify source of trouble and take corrective action.
  • Verify specifications of purchase requests.
  • Count inventory items to ensure sufficient material on hand.
  • Prepare purchase orders and send to suppliers and originating departments.
  • Compute total cost of items purchased.
  • Confers with suppliers concerning late deliveries.
  • Expedite delivery of goods to users.
  • Meet production requirements daily while controlling inventory with various lead times.
  • Assist heavily with periodic plant inventory.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

BS/BA in supply chain, finance, or construction and 2 or more years of work experience in purchasing and/or costing.

  • Excellent leadership, proactiveness, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Demonstrated relationship building capabilities with Finance, Engineering, Quality, Production, Warehouse, and Compliance.
  • Positive attitude and ability to develop strategies, direction, goals, objectives, and key measurement systems to meet business goals.
  • Adaptability to changing environment.
  • Detail‑oriented personality with strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Flexible work schedule, with overtime as often necessary.
  • Expert knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Team player with strong problem‑solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Work independently and collaboratively within a team setting with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong commitment to customer service and satisfaction.
  • Ability and flexibility to take on other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, learning, and successfully working in multicultural environments.
Physical Requirements

This job requires frequent walking, standing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and climbing stairs in or around a manufacturing facility, single‑family homes, and on uneven or unpaved surfaces. Must be able to operate a vehicle, type on a keyboard, and move, lift, or carry equipment over 50 pounds.
