Overview

The Binghampton Development Corporation (BDC) is a faith-based non-profit community development corporation working to improve the quality of life in the Binghampton community of Memphis, TN. Since July 2003, the BDC has pursued a strategy to support the revitalization of this historic neighborhood through housing, economic development and empowerment programs for those plagued by issues of systemic poverty. The BDC Business Hub provides low barrier to entry transitional employment opportunities for a range of skill levels while teaching both soft and hard skills through on-the-job training in the recycling and logistics sectors.

The BDC’s Business Hub Warehouse Supervisor will serve as the primary on-site operational leader for the Business Hub warehouse, ensuring consistent, safe, and efficient execution across all recycling and logistics operations. The role reports to the Business Hub Director and works in close coordination with the Employee Development Director and the Case Manager regarding trainee performance and support needs.

Responsibilities

The BDC’s Business Hub Warehouse Supervisor will serve as the primary on-site operational leader for the Business Hub warehouse, ensuring consistent, safe, and efficient execution across all recycling and logistics operations. The role reports to the Business Hub Director and works in close coordination with the Employee Development Director and the Case Manager regarding trainee performance and support needs.

  • Key Responsibilities: Personally works alongside BDC Service Leads and job trainees in their warehouse work assignments (shipping / receiving, streetlight recycling, mattress recycling, HVAC recycling, etc.)
  • Directly manages, coaches, and leads a team of up to 6 Service Leads, who are promoted graduates responsible for new employee training, quality control and production goals in specific task
  • Oversees daily supervision of up to 35 trainees through the Service Leads; directly intervenes in matters of safety, conflict, performance breakdowns, or operational risk. Trainees include pre apprentices (new hire to 90 days) and apprentices (post 90 days, up to 1 year).
  • Manage and coordinate inbound and outbound logistics; scheduling, documentation, broker / driver communication, operation of warehouse management system software or spreadsheets to track inventory.
  • Open and Close Warehouse (7:30am – 4:00pm). Maintain warehouse order and cleanliness.
Shared Responsibilities with the other Business Hub Staff
  • Manages the production and quality control of the ~25-35 person team across 6 different processes.
  • Coordinate hauling services with various vendors for scheduling (scrap pickup, dumpster service, etc.)
  • Builds relationships with and has targeted conversations with the job trainees.
  • Maintains job trainee results by setting expectations, monitoring performance, addressing behavioral or productivity concerns, and escalating support needs to the Case Manager or People-side leadership.
Qualifications
  • At least 5+ years experience in the logistics, warehousing or construction industries.
  • Must be comfortable working in a faith-based environment and supporting holistic employee development.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods and lift items up to 50 lbs as required.
  • Collaborates well with people of different races, backgrounds, and educational levels.

The position has target pay range of $50,000 – $60,000.
