Case Manager III – Unit Classification – Wainwright Unit
Provides highly complex case management work. The role involves developing and maintaining long‑term contact with inmates, inmate families, and service providers for medical, social, educational, and related service needs; supervising the work of others; and working under limited supervision with considerable latitude for initiative and independent judgment.
Job SummaryCase managers in this position develop and implement service plans, act as liaison among inmates, families, and service providers, coordinate unit classification committee activities, provide case management services regarding housing and work assignments, medical restrictions, security needs, and custody levels, conduct unit orientations, train and supervise staff, and perform additional duties as required.
Essential Functions- Interview inmates to gather information and assess service needs; develop and implement service plans; serve as liaison with inmates, families, and service providers.
- Assist in coordinating and participating in unit classification committee meetings; identify problem areas, service gaps, and barriers to services; develop and maintain committee records (inmate unit file, docket, travel card, automated records).
- Provide case management services, including reviews of housing, work assignments, medical restrictions, security needs, time‑earning status, and custody levels; document case records; interpret rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; and respond to routine inquiries.
- Assist in conducting unit orientation for newly assigned inmates regarding facility rules, regulations, and available services and programs.
- Train and supervise the work of others.
- Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Graduation from an accredited senior high school, equivalent, or GED.
- Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws, rules, regulations, and statutes.
- Knowledge of case management principles, objectives, standards, and methods.
- Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations (preferred).
- Knowledge of community resources (preferred).
- Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.
- Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.
- Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Skill in problem‑solving techniques.
- Skill in the use of computers and related equipment in a stand‑alone or local area network environment.
- Skill to prepare and maintain complex records and files in an automated system.
- Skill in the electronic transmission of communications.
- Skill to assess inmate needs.
- Skill to coordinate inmate services.
- Skill to train and supervise the work of others.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as walking, standing, kneeling, reaching, lifting up to 15 lbs., operating a motor vehicle, and operating motor equipment.
- Work conditions include exposure to machines with moving parts, radiant and electrical energy, working closely with others, traveling by car, van, bus, or airplane, and working irregular hours.
- Equipment used: computer, calculator, copier, fax machine, telephone, dolly, and automobile.
