Duties

  • Supervise a Sow Farm and related personnel, including day-to-day tasks of the farm, ensuring production targets are met and supervising farm employees.
  • Manage the research and control of animal selection and breeding practices to increase production efficiency and improve animal quality.
  • Ensure the care and conditioning of sows on the farm.
  • Direct the breeding and raising of swine using recognized breeding practices.
  • Supervise swine examinations to identify diseases.
  • Ensure standard operating procedures are followed and facilities are in good working condition.
  • Meet daily and weekly production targets.
  • Collect and record production data.
  • Complete and submit production analysis reports in a timely manner.
  • Submit orders for farm supplies and maintenance needs.
  • Monitor breeding and grading to ensure adherence to safety regulations or standards.
  • Create and manage employee work schedules.
  • Revise and approve timecards and approve PTO, holidays, and sick days for employees.
  • Maintain accurate personnel paperwork, including performance evaluations, and provide constructive and timely feedback to employees.
  • Carry out safety and production training and ongoing employee updates.
  • Supervise biosecurity processes in the farm.
  • Ensure that work is carried out under the zero tolerance policy for animal abuse.
  • Send feed and maintenance orders.
  • Respond to alarm calls outside of work hours.
  • No hire/fire authority.
Requirements
  • Two years of swine production experience.
  • Experience must include at least one year of management duties on a swine farm and experience following detailed standard operating procedures.
  • Must have experience managing four or more animal caretakers for sow farms.
  • Must have experience in all processes of swine production from gestation through farrowing and have experience training in vaccination and artificial insemination in swine.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally lift up to 100 pounds and sometimes push or move up to 300 pounds.
  • Must have good written and oral communication skills in English.
