Job Title:
Safety Manager– Ready-Mix Concrete Operations
The Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing safety programs across ready‑mix concrete operations. This role ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local safety regulations while promoting a strong safety culture among drivers, plant personnel, and management. The Safety Manager works closely with operations leadership to reduce incidents, manage claims, and drive continuous improvement in workplace safety.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, implement, and maintain safety policies and procedures in compliance with OSHA, DOT, and company standards
- Conduct regular safety audits of batch plants, yard operations, and driver activities to identify risks and ensure corrective actions are taken
- Lead incident investigations, including vehicle accidents, workplace injuries, and near misses; determine root causes and implement preventative measures
- Manage workers’ compensation and auto liability claims in coordination with insurance carriers and third‑party administrators
- Deliver safety training programs for drivers, plant personnel, and supervisors, including new hire orientation and ongoing refresher training
- Monitor driver safety performance, including MVR reviews, telematics data, and ride‑along evaluations
- Ensure compliance with DOT regulations including driver qualification files, hours of service, and drug/alcohol testing programs
- Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to ensure equipment safety and proper preventative maintenance practices
- Track, analyze, and report safety metrics, trends, and KPIs to leadership
- Lead safety meetings and promote a proactive safety culture across all locations
- Maintain accurate documentation of safety activities, training records, and regulatory compliance
- Serve as the primary point of contact for OSHA inspections, audits, and regulatory inquiries
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, DOT compliance, and workers’ compensation processes
- Experience managing vehicle accident investigations and insurance claims
- Ability to influence and engage employees at all levels of the organization
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Proficiency in safety reporting systems and Microsoft Office applications
- CSP, ASP, or similar safety certification preferred
- Frequent travel between plant locations and job sites
- Exposure to outdoor environments, heavy equipment, and active construction sites
- May require early mornings, extended hours, or on‑call availability depending on operational needs
- Ability to walk job sites, climb stairs and ladders, and access plant areas
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed
- Must be able to wear required PPE and work in varying weather conditions
