Job Title: Coordinator of Custodial Services Wage/Hour Status:

Primary

Purpose:

Direct, coordinate, and oversee custodial operations across all district facilities. Ensure campuses and support buildings are maintained at high standards of cleanliness, safety, and operational efficiency through effective planning, supervision, and resource management.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
  • High school diploma or GED (required)
  • Valid Texas Driver's License
Special Knowledge/

Skills:
  • Extensive knowledge of custodial methods, practices, and industry standards
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and safety protocols (OSHA, SDS)
  • Strong personnel management and leadership skills
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple sites, projects and event set ups
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills
  • Proficiency in budgeting, inventory control, and recordkeeping
Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of custodial experience (preferred)
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in custodial or facilities operations (preferred)
Major

Responsibilities and Duties:

Custodial Management
  • Develop, implement, and monitor district-wide custodial schedules, procedures, and standards
  • Ensure consistent cleanliness, sanitation, and maintenance across all facilities
  • Conduct regular inspections of campuses and facilities; initiate corrective actions as needed
  • Collaborate with principals, facility managers, and district leadership to address site-specific needs
  • Coordinate staffing assignments and adjust coverage to meet operational demands
  • Oversee setup and teardown of facilities for events and activities
  • Plan and supervise summer and deep-clean projects, including floor care and refinishing programs
  • Provide training and orientation to all custodians in cleaning procedures and proper use of chemicals and equipment.
  • Supervision & Personnel Management
  • Supervise custodial supervisors (day and night), leads, and staff across the district
  • Assist with recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and training of custodial personnel
  • Provide ongoing training in cleaning procedures, equipment use, and safety practices
  • Evaluate employee performance and provide coaching and corrective action as needed
  • Monitor attendance, timekeeping, and payroll records
  • Budget and Inventory
  • Develop and manage the custodial services budget
  • Ensure cost-effective use of labor, supplies, and equipment
  • Review and approve purchases of custodial supplies and equipment
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and conduct annual inventory audits
  • Evaluate and recommend new products, equipment, and technologies
  • Safety & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and district policies
  • Train staff in safe handling and use of equipment and chemicals
  • Maintain proper documentation for Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
  • Identify and correct unsafe conditions; report hazards that cannot be corrected
  • Promote a culture of safety across all custodial operations
  • Equipment and Preventative Maintenance
  • Establish and maintain preventative maintenance schedules for custodial equipment
  • Ensure all equipment is safe, properly maintained, and operational
  • Recommend repair or replacement of equipment as needed
  • Other Duties
    • Respond to emergencies and after-hours situations as needed, including weather events, facility emergencies, and urgent operational issues
    • Support district initiatives, special projects, and campus operational needs
    • Provide assistance during district events requiring custodial coordination
    • Maintain flexibility to adjust work schedule to meet district needs
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities
    Equipment Used:
    • Personal computer and standard office equipment (copier, printer, phone)
    • Work order and facilities management systems (e.g., Operations Hero)
    • Inventory and procurement systems
    • Custodial equipment including buffers, auto scrubbers, burnishers, vacuums (wet/dry), carpet extractors, and pressure washers
    • Hand and power tools for minor repairs
    • Chemical dispensing systems
    • Floor care equipment (stripper machines, orbital scrubbers)
    • District vehicles (light truck or van)
    Supervisory Responsibilities:
    • Directly supervises custodial supervisors, lead custodians, and district custodial personnel. Provides leadership and oversight for all custodial operations district-wide, including staff performance management, training, scheduling, and compliance with district standards. Responsible for conducting performance evaluations, addressing disciplinary actions, and ensuring consistent implementation of custodial procedures across all campuses and facilities.
