Environmental, Health & Safety Manager (EHS Manager)

Summary of functions:
The Environmental, Health & Safety Manager (EHS Manager) is responsible for leading, managing, and continuously improving the Environmental, Health & Safety programs for the production facility. The EHS Manager provides strategic and day‑to‑day leadership to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, company policies, and facility standards. This position partners with operations, maintenance, human resources, sanitation, quality, and leadership teams to strengthen the site safety culture, reduce risk, manage environmental compliance, oversee incident prevention and response, and drive continuous improvement in EHS performance.

Duties

and Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Environmental, Health & Safety systems for the facility.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve environmental, health, and safety programs, services, strategies, policies, and initiatives that support company objectives and facility needs.
  • Serve as the site leader for EHS compliance and provide guidance to management and employees regarding EHS practices, policy interpretation, risk mitigation, corrective actions, and compliance with federal and state law.
  • Develop, maintain, and audit written procedures, programs, records, and documentation to ensure regulatory compliance and audit readiness.
  • Plan and oversee monthly safety, stormwater, and facility inspections; track corrective actions through completion.
  • Manage Workers Compensation claims in partnership with Human Resources, operations leadership, claims administrators, and the Division Environmental, Health & Safety Manager as needed.
  • Lead incident investigations, formal incident reviews, root cause analysis, corrective action planning, and follow‑up for workplace incidents, near misses, environmental events, and Workers Compensation claims.
  • Participate in and support Ammonia PSM compliance activities, including monthly compliance meetings, local site meetings, documentation, and action‑item tracking.
  • Administer response to and investigation of hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions; evaluate recommendations and take appropriate action to mitigate environmental, health, and safety risks.
  • Perform training needs analyses and lead the development, coordination, and delivery of EHS training programs for management, supervisors, staff, operators, and new employees.
  • Manage inventory and availability of safety, sanitation, emergency response, and first aid supplies.
  • Own or support environmental compliance reporting requirements, including applicable permits, inspections, agency correspondence, and record‑keeping.
  • Chair site Safety Sustainability Environmental (SSE) Committee meetings and drive completion of committee action items.
  • Track, analyze, and report safety KPIs, environmental performance, incident trends, corrective action status, and other EHS metrics to site and division leadership.
  • Lead and support continuous improvement efforts to strengthen safety culture, reduce risk, improve compliance, and support operational efficiency.
  • Serve as a member of the Food Safety Team and Food Quality Team.
  • Perform all other job‑related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise onsite EHS, Environmental, Safety, or related staff as applicable.
  • Provide leadership, direction, performance feedback, and development support to direct reports and cross‑functional EHS program participants.

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence employees, supervisors, managers, and senior leadership.
  • Skill in organizing resources, establishing priorities, managing multiple programs, and meeting critical deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
  • Skill in examining and improving operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, coaching, presentation, and facilitation skills.
