SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

The Environmental, Health & Safety Manager (EHS Manager) is responsible for leading, managing, and continuously improving the Environmental, Health & Safety programs for the production facility. The EHS Manager provides strategic and day‑to‑day leadership to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, company policies, and facility standards. This position partners with operations, maintenance, human resources, sanitation, quality, and leadership teams to strengthen the site safety culture, reduce risk, manage environmental compliance, oversee incident prevention and response, and drive continuous improvement in EHS performance.

DUTIES

AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Leads and manages the Environmental, Health & Safety systems for the facility.
  • Develops, implements, and continuously improves environmental, health and safety programs, services, strategies, policies, and initiatives that support company objectives and facility needs.
  • Serves as the site leader for EHS compliance and provides guidance to management and employees regarding EHS practices, policy interpretation, risk mitigation, corrective actions, and compliance with federal and state law.
  • Develops, maintains, and audits written procedures, programs, records, and documentation to ensure regulatory compliance and audit readiness.
  • Plans and oversees monthly safety, stormwater, and facility inspections; tracks corrective actions through completion.
  • Manages Workers Compensation claims in partnership with Human Resources, operations leadership, claims administrators, and the Division Environmental, Health & Safety Manager as needed.
  • Leads incident investigations, formal incident reviews, root cause analysis, corrective action planning, and follow‑up for workplace incidents, near misses, environmental events, and Workers Compensation claims.
  • Participates in and supports Ammonia PSM compliance activities, including monthly compliance meetings, local site meetings, documentation, and action‑item tracking.
  • Administers response to and investigation of hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions; evaluates recommendations and takes appropriate action to mitigate environmental, health, and safety risks.
  • Performs training needs analyses and leads the development, coordination, and delivery of EHS training programs for management, supervisors, staff, operators, and new employees.
  • Manages inventory and availability of safety, sanitation, emergency response, and first aid supplies.
  • Owns or supports environmental compliance reporting requirements, including applicable permits, inspections, agency correspondence, and recordkeeping.
  • Chairs site Safety Sustainability Environmental (SSE) Committee meetings and drives completion of committee action items.
  • Tracks, analyzes, and reports safety KPIs, environmental performance, incident trends, corrective action status, and other EHS metrics to site and division leadership.
  • Leads and supports continuous improvement efforts to strengthen safety culture, reduce risk, improve compliance, and support operational efficiency.
  • Serves as a member of the Food Safety Team and Food Quality Team.
  • Performs all other job‑related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supervises onsite EHS, Environmental, Safety, or related staff as applicable.
  • Provides leadership, direction, performance feedback, and development support to direct reports and cross‑functional EHS program participants.
