Basic Function
The Assistant Director is responsible for the organization’s consistent achievement of its mission objectives. This position provides direct support and supervision to the full-time Banquet & Meetings Manager, Hospitality Manger, Aquatics & AV Supervisor, Retreat Staff, Summer Staff, Interns, and Apprenticeship. This person will ensure hospitality standards are met for all retreat guests by providing 5 STAR customer service. They ensure recruitment, coordination, scheduling, planning, and hosting of Camp guests throughout their inquiries and stay.
The Assistant Director is responsible for all aspects of overseeing and managing 27&Oak store, including oversight and training of staff, inventory management, and sales. The Assistant Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of weekday and weekend Retreats. They help create and foster a strong interdepartmental sense of teamwork and cooperation and aid the Camp Director in the process of hiring, onboarding, and training of all full-time, part-time, and seasonal staff.
This person assists the Camp Director in all aspects of development, ensuring compliance with all applicable programs, safety, licensing, and certification standards.
- Supervision of year-round retreat staff, summer staff, interns, and apprenticeship for all groups being served at Camp Buckner for retreats.
- Supervision of Banquet & Meetings Manager ensuring all details of the customer experience in the coordination of meals service, banquet management, and meeting room setup are met with a high level of customer satisfaction.
- Supervision of Aquatics & AV Supervisor, ensuring the successful management of aquatics operations, water safety compliance, audiovisual systems, and event technology services, with a focus on delivering an outstanding guest experience and exceeding customer expectations.
- Supervision of Program & Activities Supervisor, ensuring the successful development and delivery of recreational programs, group activities, and special events while maintaining exceptional guest experiences and customer satisfaction. Source, recruit, hire, supervise, monitor, evaluate and provide direction to direct reports. Provide professional growth and development; develop and communicate goals and objectives. Monitor and provide constructive feedback; conduct annual performance evaluations.
- Assist in organizing, planning, and facilitating comprehensive training for all full-time, part-time, seasonal staff, volunteers, and others as required.
- Assist supervisors to ensure all activity areas are maintained appropriately and in compliance with safety standards.
- Assist, guide and support supervisors with employee, intern, and volunteer selection, reviews, evaluations, and terminations.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and maintain current knowledge of best practices in Camp management and in working with Camp’s target population.
- Assist in managing summer staff, interns, apprenticeship and retreat staff schedules, duties, and projects.
- Assists in implementing measurement tools to evaluate program success and stakeholder satisfaction for all Camp programs. Creates and implements changes to further improve and grow the programs.
- Oversee and manage 27&Oak store, including oversight and training of staff, inventory management, and sales.
- Support the preparation and transition between groups arriving and departing Camp Buckner.
- Serves as acting director in Camp Director’s absence.
- Supervise and schedule staff to set up and breakdown meeting rooms as required.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with current and prospective retreat guests and leaders to promote the ministries of Camp Buckner.
