TPWD - Park/Historic Site Superintendent IV (Site Superintendent)
To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.
GENERAL DESCRIPTIONThe Superintendent IV position is located in a remote and rugged part of Big Bend Ranch State Park, which is located within one of the most remote and rugged areas in the state of Texas. It is highly recommended that interested applicants research and, preferably, visit the area before applying. Part of the diverse Chihuahuan Desert ecosystem, the Big Bend region is a gorgeous part of Texas with some of the best outdoor recreational opportunities in the entire state.
The Big Bend features mild winters and is one of the most bio-diverse regions in Texas.
Under the direction of the Big Bend Ranch State Park Complex Superintendent, this position performs advanced (senior-level) park/historic site management work. Responsible for overseeing the preservation, protection, administration, and maintenance of the Sauceda Unit at Big Bend Ranch State Park. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: cultural and natural resource protection and stewardship; visitor and customer service security and safety programs;
maintenance and repair of facilities, grounds and equipment, financial management to include budget planning, preparation and monitoring; revenue management; human resources management to include recruitment and retention; managing leased concessions; public relations, park and rangeland management, marketing and promotion; interpretive and educational program management to include engaging in community outreach and coordinating special events. Engages in volunteer development and cultivating partnerships.
Leads team to fulfill the TPWD Mission in a manner that embodies the department's core values. Responsible for other assigned projects required by the Complex Superintendent and the State Parks Region 1 Director. Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch rules, policies, and procedures.

Salary range is limited to commissioned officers in the park management track prior to 9/1/2020. State Park Law Enforcement career ladder eligibility requirements must be met to advance from the base rate-of-pay.
Education
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree
Experience
Five years' experience in (1) natural/cultural resource management; or (2) interpretation or education; or (3) general maintenance; or (4) public safety; or (5) promotions or public relations or marketing.
Three years' experience as a supervisor or team leader.

Must possess a State driver's license.

Retention of this position is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining the required licenses.
Education
Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) employees hired prior to January 1, 1998, without a break in service, with a minimum of sixty hours earned may substitute two years of TPWD experience in park management, supervision or operations for the required degree.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSEducation
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Park Administration, Recreation and Parks, Wildlife/Fisheries Science, Natural and/or Cultural Resource Management, Forestry, Biology, Anthropology, Archaeology, or History.
Experience
One year experience in revenue or budget management.
