POSITION SUMMARY:

Our Waco, TX facility manufactures aluminum ends/lids for beverage cans commonly used for soft drinks, beers, energy drinks, teas and non-carbonated beverages. Using state of the art end‑making technology, this high‑speed environment provides rewarding manufacturing opportunities.

We are seeking a highly skilled and meticulous Tool Room Coordinator to lead the daily operation of our plant’s dedicated Tool Room. This critical role is responsible for the systematic maintenance, inventory control, documentation, and refurbishment of all precision tooling used in the Shell Press and Conversion machinery. The coordinator ensures that production lines receive certified, high‑quality, and ready‑to‑run tooling to maximize uptime and maintain product specifications.

Job Functions

TOOLING MAINTENANCE AND REFURBISHMENT

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Tool Room, including managing the workload, scheduling maintenance, and assigning tasks to Tool Room Machinists.
  • Perform and manage the sharpening, grinding, cleaning, polishing, and repair of precision dies, punches, rings, and related components according to established specifications and standards.
  • Utilize precision measuring equipment (e.g., micrometers, calipers, gauge blocks, optical comparators) to ensure all rebuilt tooling meets stringent quality tolerances.

INVENTORY CONTROL AND LOGISTICS

  • Implement and maintain a precise Tooling Management System (manual and/or computerized) to track the life cycle, location, usage history, and maintenance records of every critical tool set.
  • Manage and control the inventory of spare tooling components and consumables, initiating procurement requests to ensure optimal stock levels are maintained without risk of stock‑outs.
  • Coordinate the timely delivery and removal of tool sets to and from the production floor, ensuring proper packaging and handling to prevent damage.

DOCUMENTATION AND QUALITY ASSURANCE

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation for all tooling history, including failure analysis, repair notes, and run hours, using the plant's ERP or CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System).
  • Collaborate with Quality Assurance and Production teams to investigate tooling‑related quality defects (e.g., burrs, excessive wear, size variation) and implement corrective actions.
  • Establish and audit Standard Work procedures for all common Tool Room tasks to ensure consistency and quality of repairs.

SAFETY AND HOUSEKEEPING

  • Ensure the Tool Room area adheres to the highest standards of 5S and workplace organization.
  • Enforce all plant safety regulations and procedures related to grinding wheels, heavy lifting, chemical handling (cleaning agents), and machine operation within the Tool Room.

Requirements
  • Preferred – A Technical degree or the equivalent experience, defined as greater than 4 years of experience in a technical manufacturing continuous improvement environment.
  • Preferred – 5+ years of experience as a Tool & Die Maker, Machinist, or Precision Tooling Technician,
  • in high-speed automated machinery, preferably in metal forming, packaging, or can manufacturing industry.
