Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Welder to join our structural steel fabrication team. This role is ideal for a skilled MIG welder with strong welding experience in structural steel manufacturing, construction, or industrial fabrication. The Structural Welder will perform MIG welding and other welding processes to assemble and fabricate steel components while ensuring high-quality welds that meet safety and engineering specifications.
The position may also collaborate with fabricators and welder helpers to support production goals, maintain equipment, and ensure projects are completed efficiently and safely.
- Welding & Fabrication:
Perform MIG welding (GMAW) on structural steel components. Use other techniques such as SMAW, GTAW, and FCAW as required. - Read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and shop drawings to ensure proper assembly and weld placement.
- Inspect welds for structural integrity, appearance, and adherence to industry standards. Use visual inspection and, where applicable, non-destructive testing methods such as dye penetrants.
- Cut, grind, and fit steel components using plasma cutters, torches, and grinders prior to welding.
- Maintain and troubleshoot welding equipment to ensure optimal performance; clean and inspect tools regularly.
- Follow OSHA and company safety policies, use all required PPE, and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Work with supervisors, fellow welders, and fabricators to meet production goals and project deadlines.
- Participate in internal training programs and suggest improvements to welding processes, quality, or safety.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and government regulations (e.g., OSHA standards).
- Promptly report any accidents, injuries, unsafe conditions, or potential hazards to a supervisor.
- Actively participate in all mandatory safety training, drills, and development programs to improve skills and knowledge.
- Work cooperatively with team members to achieve production goals and departmental objectives.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and codes of conduct.
- Monitor own work to ensure it meets quality specifications.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Experience:
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in structural steel welding/fabrication.
- Proven ability to weld steel for buildings, bridges, or industrial structures.
- Education:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Certifications:
- Technical school welding certification preferred.
- Certifications from AWS, CWB, or NCCER are highly preferred.
- Completion of a welding program that includes blueprint reading and safety training is desirable.
- Accreditation in non-destructive inspection methods (e.g., dye penetrant, ultrasound) is a plus.
- Proficiency in MIG welding (GMAW); knowledge of TIG, Stick, or Flux-Core welding is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents, blueprints, and welding symbols.
- Familiarity with fabrication tools such as grinders, saws, torches, and measuring instruments.
- Strong attention to detail, safety, and quality.
- Ability to work independently or within a team with minimal supervision.
- Must be willing and able to pass a weld test.
- Must be willing to pass a drug test and physical as a condition of employment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
- Ability to read, write, and understand basic English and/or Spanish to interpret and follow safety guidelines and work instructions.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to work in various environmental conditions common to a manufacturing facility (e.g., varying temperatures, noise levels, potential for dust/debris, wet floors).
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for operating equipment and handling supplies.
- Full Time:
Monday-Friday, 1st Shift (6:00am – 2:00pm), 2nd Shift (2:00pm – 10:00pm) - Depending on production needs, some weekends may be required.
