Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Mill Certifications & Documentation

  • Manage the complete mill certification process, including receipt, verification, organization, and maintenance of steel mill certifications.
  • Input, track, and monitor Mill Test Reports (MTRs) and related quality documentation.
  • Review certification documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare, verify, and issue Mill Test Reports, certificates of compliance, and customer-required documentation for outgoing shipments.
  • Maintain certification records in accordance with company, customer, and regulatory requirements.
Material Traceability & Compliance
  • Ensure full material traceability from receipt through shipment.
  • Verify heat numbers, material grades, specifications, and certifications throughout the inventory and production process.
  • Maintain accurate records linking material certifications to inventory and customer orders.
  • Ensure compliance with ASTM, ANSI, customer specifications, and contractual requirements.
Receiving & Material Verification
  • Verify quantities, heat numbers, and material documentation for incoming steel shipments.
  • Compare incoming materials against purchase orders, packing slips, and certification records.
  • Identify and report discrepancies involving certifications, material grades, quantities, or traceability documentation.
Inventory & Material Control
  • Assist with material identification, labeling, marking, and storage practices to ensure traceability and accountability.
  • Support inventory control efforts by maintaining accurate certification and material records.
  • Collaborate with inventory and logistics personnel to ensure proper material tracking and movement.
Shipping & Distribution Support
  • Prepare certification packages and shipping documentation for outbound shipments.
  • Ensure all required quality and traceability documentation accompanies customer shipments.
  • Support loading and shipping operations to verify material identification and documentation accuracy.
Audits, Reporting & Quality Assurance
  • Participate in internal, customer, and regulatory audits.
  • Conduct routine audits of certification records and material traceability systems.
  • Generate reports related to inventory, certifications, material status, and shipment history.
  • Support quality management initiatives and corrective action processes as needed.
  • Monitor government-furnished materials and materials assigned to specific contracts or production jobs.
Team Support & Training
  • Provide guidance to employees regarding material traceability requirements, certification procedures, and documentation standards.
  • Assist in training team members on inventory accountability and quality documentation processes.
  • Promote compliance with company policies, safety standards, quality requirements, and contractual obligations.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical degree, quality certification, or related education preferred.
  • 2–5 years of experience in a steel mill, metals service center, manufacturing, quality assurance, inventory control, or materials management environment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Working knowledge of steel grades, dimensions, heat numbers, chemical compositions, and mechanical properties.
  • Understanding of ASTM, ANSI, and customer quality requirements.
  • Experience reviewing and managing Mill Test Reports (MTRs) and material certifications.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
  • Ability to maintain traceability records and support audit requirements.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with ERP, inventory management, or quality management systems.
  • Ability to generate reports and maintain electronic documentation systems.
Work Environment &

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in both office and manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to occasionally inspect materials in warehouse or production areas.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds as needed.

Mill Certification & Traceability Coordinator is responsible for managing the steel mill certification process, maintaining material traceability, and ensuring compliance with customer, regulatory, and industry requirements. This position serves as the primary point of contact for Mill Test Reports (MTRs), certification documentation, inventory traceability, and quality records throughout the receiving, storage, production, and shipping processes.

The ideal candidate will possess strong attention to detail, experience working with steel products and industry standards, and the ability to maintain accurate records while supporting inventory, logistics, and quality assurance functions.
