What to Expect
The Quality Technician is primarily responsible for evaluating parts produced on various lines (electro-mechanical components and subassemblies, welding, powder coat, general/final assembly), and end-of-line testing in a high-speed environment, ensuring Tesla standards are met by flagging suspect or nonconforming parts, supporting containment activities, and promoting a culture of quality. This role minimizes defective parts sent to downstream departments, assists multiple teams in maintaining and improving overall part quality, and yields beneficial results for higher efficiency.
What You'll Do
* The Quality Technician will be responsible for guiding production teams to properly disposition parts as good for use, need repair, or scrap, while documenting and communicating identified defects, with accountability for escalating unresolved concerns to the quality engineering team and direct manager
* This person is expected to comprehend current production quality standards, determine if ongoing production meets those standards, and execute efficiently against provided instructions, self-validate work for accuracy, check the quality of previous operations, and meet critical deadlines, including providing day-to-day production support on quality concerns and developing/implementing short- and long-term countermeasures to quality problems while maintaining operational efficiency
* The Quality Technician shall have the capacity to communicate emerging and trending quality issues to prevent negative impact to the factory, align with the Quality engineering team to support incoming and in-process quality activities, and verbally provide constructive feedback, define/iterate/document standard work, and suggest process improvements, with ownership for detailed daily record keeping and reporting of quality issues referenced by technicians, engineers, and management
* The Quality Technician will also be constructing and maintaining strong relationships with members of all nearby teams in multiple departments
What You'll Bring
* Must have a high level of attention to detail, while working in an environment that requires quick action, with the ability to identify and differentiate between several defect types, determine severity and required response, and apply critical thinking skills to engage and troubleshoot new quality issues
* Knowledge in basic measurement and inspection tools (e.g., calipers, torque wrenches, gauges, measuring tape) is a plus; experience with electro-mechanical components, welding, powder coating, or assembly processes (Desirable)
* Communicates test results, ideas, and problems to supervisor and engineers; able to be part of the solution, with strong verbal and written communication skills in English, the ability to build solid relationships with several teams in multiple departments, and personable effectiveness in a fast-paced team environment
* Typically involves a variety of operations (including troubleshooting and rework) requiring a sufficient understanding of the functional operation of the items assembled as well as the finished product, with the ability to communicate new defect information to team leadership and counterparts
