UTEX Industries is seeking an experienced Mold Design Technician to join our engineering and maintenance team. In this role, you will play a key part in designing, developing, and improving molds used in the production of high-performance rubber and plastic components.
What You’ll Do- Design and modify 2D and 3D mold drawings using AutoCAD.
- Create machine prints and develop machined part drawings using AutoLISP.
- Support Manufacturing Engineering by preparing cost estimates for new tooling and mold projects.
- Analyze historical project costs to improve future estimates.
- Develop and maintain project schedules for mold builds and machining activities.
- Coordinate documentation to ensure production readiness.
- Obtain and evaluate quotes from external tooling vendors and machine shops.
- Design mold accessories including trim dies, forming dies, spring fixtures, and manufacturing fixtures.
- Create repair part drawings for equipment and machinery.
- Evaluate damaged molds and develop repair or rework plans with the Machine Shop.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings to recommend mold improvements and corrective actions.
- Support first article production runs by troubleshooting mold-related issues on the production floor.
- Provide mold project updates to manufacturing, production, procurement, and sales teams.
- Assist with customer-furnished mold evaluations and Cap Ex equipment projects.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mold design or tooling within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong AutoCAD proficiency.
- Experience with AutoLISP.
- Knowledge of rubber and plastic injection and compression mold design.
- Understanding of machining processes and tooling.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and project management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- Certification in Mold Design or Tooling Engineering.
- Experience collaborating with machine shops, vendors, and cross-functional manufacturing teams.
- Full-time, Monday-Friday.
- Combination of office and manufacturing floor.
- Occasional overtime as needed.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a physical environment.
