Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
The position will assist painters and welders in all tasks associated with sanding, prepping and painting.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Prepare surfaces for painting.
- Document work completion and time-tracking in accordance with company procedures.
- Apply decals and unit numbers for tracking purposes.
- Requisition parts as necessary.
- Remove old paint rust decals to provide a smooth bondable surface for paint adhesion
- Operate forklifts, roll-off trucks and other equipment as required.
- Conduct inventory when directed by the supervisor.
- Prepare surfaces to be protected on interior or exterior assets to be painted for corrosion prevention.
- Prepare containers, compactors, boxes, buildings and other company assets as assigned by supervisor.
- Comply with company safety policies and applicable state and federal regulations.
- Report immediately any safety violations and correcting unsafe acts or conditions.
- Conduct monthly, daily and weekly inventories as required.
- Maintain a clean workspace.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Forklift certified or able to become certified within 90 days of employment
- Working knowledge of painting techniques, metal integrity, sanding and grinding operations
- Working knowledge of shop equipment i.e., air compressors, grinders, sanders, stencils, paint equipment, and paint cleaning supplies
- Must pass a pulmonary function and respirator fit test Mechanical aptitude with a desire to learn
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Must be able to read and write in English
- Able to follow instructions
- Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals
- Aptitude for maintaining and repairing equipment
PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or its equivalent
- At least one year of paint and body experience
- Working knowledge of paint, prep surfaces, environmental rules, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
REQUIRED LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS
- Valid Class C driver’s license
- Safe driving for the last three years
