Job Summary
The Ted and Donna Lyon Center is recruiting a highly motivated and creative Communications and Outreach Coordinator to develop, manage, and advance the center’s communications and outreach program while promoting the Lyon Center’s mission. The Lyon Center for Gamebird Research at East Texas A&M University is a flagship research center with a mission to discover solutions for sustainable gamebird populations, train the next generation of gamebird professionals, and transform the gamebird industry.
Duties & Responsibilities- Develops and executes a communications and outreach strategy
- Collaborates with staff to develop engaging content for communications and outreach channels
- Develops, distributes, tracks, and reports all communications and outreach for the Lyon Center
- Develops and maintains active collaborations with industry partners
- Interacts with respondents to Lyon Center communications and outreach
- Maintains a unified brand across social media and other communication channels
- Collaborates with other departments and partners to create engaging outreach campaigns
- Cultivates partners to raise awareness of the Lyon Center and its mission
- Participates in programmatic and strategic planning for the Lyon Center
- Performs administrative tasks associated with the position and the Lyon Center
- Oversees planning and hosting of Lyon Center outreach events
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience with four years of related professional experience. - Experience in outdoor communications and outreach is preferred.
- Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of or experience related to the outdoors, gamebirds, pollinators, and/or wildlife.
- Knowledge of or experience in marketing and promotion.
- Proficient computer skills to coordinate communications, outreach, and social media strategies.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent skills in public relations, community engagement and networking.
- Ability to communicate the Lyon Center’s mission and activities across multiple platforms; understand trends in digital content and social media space; work as a team member; inspire, motivate, and lead partners; and represent the Lyon Center with professionalism.

Ability to sit at a computer for extended periods, ability to be outdoors for extended periods, ability to lift and transport outreach materials, and ability to communicate for the duration of shifts or events. - Other Requirements:
May be required to travel with overnight stays for communication and outreach activities.
- Has a passion for gamebirds, conservation, hunting and/or the outdoors.
- Prioritizes the mission of the Lyon Center for Gamebird Research.
- Is a skilled storyteller capable of crafting compelling, mission-driven content that resonates with various audiences and brings the Lyon Center’s vision and values to life.
- Has proven experience coordinating communications and outreach, including social media and newsletters.
- Enjoys interacting with the public, donors, public agencies, and corporate and non-profit partners.
- Demonstrates proficiency in digital media formats, content creation, and content distribution.
- Has strong copywriting and editing skills.
- Demonstrates impeccable organizational and time management skills.
- Demonstrates strong project management skills and experience using project management tools.
- Is detail-oriented with the ability to meet deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite and Word Press.
- Has experience working in a higher education setting or familiarity with university processes, or working with research, conservation, or non-profit organizations.
- Exudes professionalism.
