Licensed Vocational Nurse III to provide advanced nursing care and support to residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities at the State Supported Living Center. This role involves clinical responsibilities, instructional duties, and program implementation under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Essential Job Functions- Attend work on a regular basis; may be required to work a specific shift or rotating schedule.
- Serve on-call status as required.
- Administer medications, perform complex nursing procedures (tracheostomy, gastrostomy/jejunostomy, wound care, breathing treatments).
- Collect specimens for laboratory work; conduct screening tests.
- Monitor residents’ weight, diet, vital signs, and health status post‑treatment.
- Document treatments and observations accurately in the electronic health record.
- Communicate pertinent information to RN Case Manager and other health‑care team members.
- Train and supervise new LVNs, oversee their duties, and provide feedback.
- Assist RNs with protocols, quality assurance, infection control, and therapeutic nursing programs.
- Respond to emergencies, perform CPR, and provide educational safety training.
- Participate in facility committees and quality improvement initiatives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, including disaster response and COOP activation.
- Knowledge of nursing care standards and emergency procedures.
- Familiarity with state and federal laws for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
- Reasoning skills to identify problems and develop solutions.
- Computer skills for electronic health record system.
- Ability to organize, coordinate, and evaluate nursing activities.
- Effective communication and instructional skills.
- CPR certification and physical capacity for CPR.
- Licensed as a Licensed Vocational Nurse in Texas.
- Graduated from an LVN program.
- Minimum 6 months prior LVN employment; 12 months preferred.
- Experience with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities (preferred).
- Experience training or supervising others (preferred).
- Experience with electronic health record system (preferred).
Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and relevant registry checks. Must be at least 18 years old. Males aged 18‑25 should register for Selective Service. Random drug testing is required. Flexibility for overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required.
Work ConditionsShift: Evening (first available), with potential to work days or nights; may earn additional pay for evenings, nights, weekends, and maximum security locations. Telework not eligible.
