- Provide clinic and nursing care services.
- Assist physicians and prepare patients for various types of examinations and procedures.
- As directed by a physician, administer specific drugs or medications either orally or by injection and observe patient for reactions.
- Instruct patients and family members regarding treatments and follow-up care.
- Assist physician with minor surgical procedures performed in the clinic.
- Obtain and record blood pressure readings, weight, and length measurements.
- Provide care appropriate for the patients served based on demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
- Assess and interpret data on the patients’ status to identify patients’ requirements relative to their age‑specific needs and provide care needed as stipulated in departmental policy.
- Perform urine dipstick for protein, glucose, bilirubin, ketones, specific gravity, blood, PH, urobilinogen, nitrate, and leukocytes.
- Collect blood samples by finger stick using aseptic technique for HCT and capillary blood glucose.
- Perform urine HCG pregnancy tests as directed.
- Obtain and accurately label specimens for laboratory tests.
- Maintain files and prepare documents.
- Prior to examination, obtain subjective information related to patient’s perception of health.
- Collect necessary information received concerning x‑ray and laboratory reports, data from referring physicians, and surgical or other procedure reports for the patient’s files.
- Enter medications and drugs administered and any reaction into the files.
- Maintain stock levels of supplies and required equipment.
- Ensure inventory in exam rooms, supply room, medication cabinet, and medication refrigerator are adequately stocked with supplies necessary for efficient operation.
- Clean and disinfect surgical instruments and ensure they are delivered to the designated place for sterilization.
- Maintain confidentiality on a daily basis.
- Work well with other employees.
- Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.
- Follow standard precautions when providing direct patient care or handling potentially infectious materials.
- Graduate of an accredited school of vocational nursing required.
- One year experience as a licensed vocational nurse preferred.
- One year of clinic or supervisory experience preferred.
- Knowledge of clinical nursing care.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Familiar with operating computers and ability to utilize computer systems.
- Licensed Vocational Nurse currently licensed by the state of Texas required.
- Current CPR certification required.
- Duties of the position require extended periods of standing and walking.
- Some bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, and lifting up to 52 pounds.
- Occasional heavy lifting when moving or supporting patients who may suddenly become weak or helpless.
- The ability to comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions or directions.
