Position: Nurse Practitioner - Correctional Urgent Care - $160K-170K per year
Location: Dilley

Core Civic is seeking a Nurse Practitioner Correctional Urgent Care for a position in Dilley, Texas.

Core Civic is currently seeking a Nurse Practitioner Primary Care who has a passion for providing the highest quality care in an institutional setting. The Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner Primary Care, under the supervision of the facility physician, will provide advanced nursing services and patient care to inmates/residents. The successful applicant should be able to perform the following functions:

Primary Healthcare Services
  • Conduct thorough medical evaluations, physical examinations, and medical histories for incarcerated individuals.
  • Diagnose and treat a wide range of acute and chronic illnesses, injuries, and infections.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, prescribing appropriate medications, therapies, and interventions.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory work, radiological examinations, and screenings.
  • Provide vaccinations, perform health screenings, and promote preventive care measures.
  • Perform basic technical skills such as suturing, splinting, and injections.
Chronic Disease Management
  • Monitor and manage chronic diseases prevalent among incarcerated individuals, such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, HIV/AIDS, and Hepatitis

    C.
  • Ensure proper medication management, including prescribing, adjusting dosages, and monitoring treatment effectiveness.
  • Educate patients on disease management strategies, lifestyle modifications, and medication adherence.
  • Collaborate with specialty care providers for consultations and referrals, when necessary.
Emergency Medical Services
  • Respond to medical emergencies within the correctional facility, providing immediate assessment, stabilization, and necessary interventions.
  • Coordinate with emergency medical services or arrange for transfers to external medical facilities, when required.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness planning and training exercises to ensure efficient emergency response within the correctional setting.
Collaboration and Coordination
  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, psychologists, psychiatrists, dentists, social workers, and other correctional staff, to ensure coordinated and integrated healthcare delivery.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare team members, providing necessary information, consultations, and referrals.
  • Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives to enhance the overall healthcare delivery system.
Documentation and Compliance
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including patient histories, diagnoses, treatments, and medications administered.
  • Adhere to patient confidentiality regulations and ensure the security and privacy of medical records.
  • Comply with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies governing correctional healthcare and professional ethical standards.
Professional Development
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in primary care, correctional medicine, and relevant healthcare regulations.
  • Engage in continuous professional development activities.
  • Provide training and education to correctional staff on primary healthcare topics, as needed.
Qualifications
  • Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the state/jurisdiction where the correctional facility is located.
  • Experience in providing primary care or relevant experience in correctional or underserved populations is preferred.
  • Strong assessment and diagnostic skills, with the ability to manage a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a challenging and dynamic environment.
