Overview
The Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care to patients within assigned areas utilizing the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patients.
Responsibilities- Provides nursing care according to medical regimen and nursing interventions appropriate for the patients' conditions and according to established standards, policies and procedures including care of the ambulatory practice patient.
- Initiates assessment based on the patient's presenting problems or needs, the physician's medical diagnosis and the functional health framework upon visit.
- Collects key information from patient, family, laboratory, and other medical reports; ensures that all consents for treatment/procedure have been signed and that all prescribed identification procedures have been carried out.
- Determines nursing diagnoses and priorities for care with emphasis on patient teaching, discharge planning, and growth and development needs of the patient.
- Determines applicable standards of care and practice for the patient; documents assessment, including nursing diagnoses or other clinical judgments.
- Demonstrates knowledge, technical, interpersonal and critical thinking skills to provide care, manage clinical competency and meet age-specific patient needs within the unit.
- Completes ongoing assessments according to outpatient and nursing policy, re-prioritizes care based on new information, updates nursing diagnoses, and involves family or other significant individuals in assessment activities.
- Assesses, plans and implements care of assigned patients; performs therapeutic nursing interventions as ordered by the physician; aligns with standards of care and practice and unit policies.
- Provides care consistent with the nature of the unit, including history and physical assessment, administration of medications, treatments and immunizations, preparation for examinations/procedures, pain control, and patient safety monitoring.
- Monitors patient responses during treatment/procedure; initiates corrective action for adverse symptoms such as respiratory or cardiac changes; coordinates patient referrals; provides patient education.
- Documents care according to standards of care and practice; records assessment findings, interventions, and patient progress.
- Responds to emergencies and participates in CPR/BLS as required; provides teaching to patient/family about disease/condition; develops and implements patient teaching outlines and evaluates progress.
- Maintains and updates patient medical records; uses patient computer systems for data entry and retrieval.
- Collaborates with patient/family/hospital staff in a courteous, responsive manner; supports iRESPECT standards and promotes patient/customer satisfaction.
- Provides instruction, assigns and supervises LPN and other support personnel; assists in orientation and supervision of new staff and students as part of training.
- Transports monitored patients, specimens, equipment and supplies as needed; collaborates with forensic team and security to maintain a safe environment for patients in custody.
- Completes required training, attends mandatory in-services, participates in unit-based performance improvement initiatives, and maintains competencies for the position.
- Maintains a clean, safe environment in accordance with policies and infection control standards; prepares and maintains required records and reports for administrative and compliance purposes.
- Graduate of an approved nursing school/program (Required).
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Preferred).
- RN
- Registered Nurse with State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure to work in state of TN (Upon Hire Required). - BCLS
- Basic Life Support (Upon Hire Required). - Experience in inpatient care; skilled to work with school age, adolescent, adult and/or geriatric populations as required.
