POSITION SUMMARY/SCOPEThe Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) provides essential support to nursing staff by assisting patients with daily living activities and ensuring their comfort and safety. Under the supervision of registered nurses (RNs) or licensed practical nurses (LPNs), CNAs play a vital role in delivering compassionate, patient-centered care.
Supervisory Responsibilities- none
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
- Reposition bedridden patients to prevent pressure ulcers and promote comfort.
- Measure and record vital signs such as blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration rate.
- Monitor and document patient intake and output, including food and fluid consumption and urinary and fecal output.
- Assist with mobility and transfers, ensuring patient safety during movement.
- Provide emotional support and companionship to patients, addressing their concerns and needs.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of patient rooms, ensuring a safe and hygienic environment.
- Report any changes in patient condition or behavior to the nursing staff promptly.
- Adhere to infection control protocols and hospital policies and procedures.
- Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- With specialized training and written approval, may perform additional and specialized tasks pertinent to the assigned area.

- Shows dependability by being punctual; maintains consistent attendance.
- Maintains a safe environment for patients and co-workers
- transports patients and equipment as appropriate.
- Proficient in assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs): bathing, dressing, feeding, grooming, and toileting
- Skilled in monitoring and documenting vital signs (temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration)
- Experienced in safe patient transfers and mobility
- Knowledgeable in infection control practices and standard precautions (PPE, hand hygiene, etc.)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with patients, families, and healthcare team members
- Compassionate and empathetic with the ability to provide emotional support and comfort to patients
- Attentive to changes in patient condition and capable of promptly reporting concerns to nursing staff
- Familiar with basic medical terminology and electronic health record (EHR) systems
- Well-organized and able to manage time efficiently in a fast-paced hospital environment
- High school graduate preferred.
- Successful completion of nursing assistant course or the equivalent.
- Current certification as a Nursing Assistant in the state of Texas.
- Previous hospital experience with acceptable references preferred.
- BLS required or obtained within 6 months of hire date.
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
