Under the direction of the Ecosystem Leader, this position performs routine to complex (journey-level) fish and wildlife conservation work. Assists in collection, recording, and editing of fishery-dependent and independent data in the Cedar Lakes ecosystem. Operates equipment safely. Maintains gear, equipment, and facility. Assists with some laboratory work, including safe operation of fisheries lab equipment. May assist with training, assigning, and scheduling the work of other team members as needed.
Works under moderate to limited supervision with limited to moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division, and Branch policies, procedures and standards.
- Education: Graduation from High School or GED.
- Experience: Fish and Wildlife Technician I (a):
No experience required. Fish and Wildlife Technician I (b):
Two years of relevant experience. Fish and Wildlife Technician II:
Four years of relevant experience required related to the specific duties of the position. - Licensure: Must possess or be able to obtain, within thirty days of employment, a valid class “C” Texas driver’s license. Retention of position is contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required license.
- Fish and Wildlife Technician I (b) and Fish and Wildlife Technician II only:
Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university with a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Fisheries Biology, Marine Biology, or closely related field may be substituted for two years of required experience.
- Two years of relevant experience.
- Experience navigating vessels in shallow bay systems.
- Experience working on vessels in the Gulf or other large bodies of water.
- Experience constructing, using, and maintaining specialized fisheries-sampling gears such as seines, nets, trawls, and oyster dredges.
