POSITION:

Ottine Mineral Springs is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Horticulturist to oversee the cultivation, care, and development of native Texas landscapes, medicinal and culinary herbs, and specialty plants utilized throughout the resort. This position plays a key role in supporting both the guest experience and the resort’s food + beverage program by growing and maintaining plants used in teas, culinary offerings, wellness experiences, and educational programming.

The Horticulturist will work closely with the Landscaping team, Facilities department, Spa, and Food + Beverage team to create beautiful, sustainable, and productive gardens that reflect the natural environment of Central Texas and the wellness-focused mission of Ottine Mineral Springs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Design, install, maintain, and enhance native Texas plant landscapes throughout the property.
  • Monitor plant health and implement preventative care practices.
  • Develop seasonal planting schedules and garden maintenance plans.
  • Identify and manage pests, weeds, and plant diseases using environmentally responsible methods.
  • Ensure irrigation systems are functioning properly and recommend improvements as needed.
  • Assist in preserving and enhancing the property’s natural ecosystems and biodiversity.
  • Plan, cultivate, harvest, and maintain herbs, flowers, fruits, and specialty plants used in the resort’s tea and culinary programs.
  • Collaborate with the Food + Beverage team to identify ingredients that can be incorporated into seasonal menus, teas, garnishes, and specialty offerings.
  • Develop harvest schedules to ensure a consistent supply of fresh ingredients.
  • Maintain accurate records of planting, harvesting, yields, and seasonal performance.
  • Promote sustainable horticultural practices, including composting, water conservation, soil health management, and integrated pest management.
  • Recommend native and adaptive plant species that support pollinators and local wildlife.
  • Assist in developing long-term landscape and garden plans aligned with the resort’s sustainability goals.
  • Work alongside Landscaping team members to prioritize projects and maintenance needs.
  • Provide horticultural guidance and training to landscaping staff.
  • Coordinate with resort leadership regarding landscape improvements, special projects, and seasonal initiatives.
  • Support guest-facing educational opportunities related to native plants, gardening, wellness herbs, and sustainable agriculture.
  • Maintain inventory of plants, seeds, fertilizers, tools, and horticultural supplies.
  • Assist with budgeting and purchasing recommendations for gardens and landscaping projects.
  • Maintain records related to plant health, treatments, harvests, and garden performance.

Due to changing operational demands and the need to exceed customer expectations, it may be necessary to undertake various functions that are not specifically related to this position. This individual may be required to carry out additional tasks and duties as needed or as directed. Additionally, employee responsibilities and job descriptions are subject to review and modification.

REQUIREMENTS:
  • This position requires some nights, evenings, and holidays.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in horticulture, landscape management, farming, botanical gardens, greenhouse operations, or related work.
  • Knowledge of native Texas plants and Central Texas growing conditions.
  • Experience with herb cultivation, edible gardens, or specialty crop production.
  • Ability to identify common plant diseases, pests, and nutrient deficiencies.
  • Experience with medicinal, culinary, or tea-producing herbs.
