Responsibilities
- Assisting veterinarians during exams, surgeries and other medical procedures.
- Monitoring and caring for animals before, during and after procedures.
- Handling and restraining animals calmly and compassionately.
- Preparing exam rooms and surgical areas; restocking hospital supplies.
- Cleaning and sterilizing surgical instruments and equipment; wrapping surgical packs and instruments.
- Educating pet owners on products, food, and diseases.
- Placing IV catheters and performing blood draws from cephalic, saphenous, and jugular veins.
- Running in‑house bloodwork on Idexx Catalyst machines.
- Taking x‑rays.
- Maintaining accurate and detailed records of patient care and treatment.
- Preparing and reading cytology samples including skin, ears, fecal, and urine.
- Cleaning cages, kennels, exam rooms, and surgical facilities.
This is a very physical job that requires standing, stooping, and walking for extended periods of time.
Requirements- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 1 year experience as a veterinary technician or assistant.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced and sometimes emotionally charged environment.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions closely.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new veterinary procedures and technologies.
- LVT or CVA preferred, but not required.
- Comfortable with cats and dogs, blood, and surgical procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift 40 pounds alone.
- Reliable transportation.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Full‑time, 4 days a week (7:30am–5:30pm) with 1‑hour lunch; no evenings or weekends.
- Pay based on experience and licensure, starting at $16.00 per hour.
- Knowledge of Avimark and ezyVet preferred, but not necessary.
