Veterinary Assistant

Responsibilities

• Assisting veterinarians during exams, surgeries and other medical procedures.
• Monitoring and caring for animals before, during and after procedures.
• Handling and restraining animals calmly and compassionately.
• Preparing exam rooms and surgical areas; restocking hospital supplies.
• Cleaning and sterilizing surgical instruments and equipment; wrapping surgical packs and instruments.
• Educating pet owners on products, food, and diseases.
• Placing IV catheters and performing blood draws from cephalic, saphenous, and jugular veins.
• Running in‑house bloodwork on Idexx Catalyst machines.
• Taking x‑rays.
• Maintaining accurate and detailed records of patient care and treatment.
• Preparing and reading cytology samples including skin, ears, fecal, and urine.
• Cleaning cages, kennels, exam rooms, and surgical facilities.

This is a very physical job that requires standing, stooping, and walking for extended periods of time.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year experience as a veterinary technician or assistant.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced and sometimes emotionally charged environment.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions closely.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new veterinary procedures and technologies.
• LVT or CVA preferred, but not required.
• Comfortable with cats and dogs, blood, and surgical procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to stand for long periods of time.
• Ability to lift 40 pounds alone.
• Reliable transportation.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• Full‑time, 4 days a week (7:30am–5:30pm) with 1‑hour lunch; no evenings or weekends.
• Pay based on experience and licensure, starting at $16.00 per hour.
• Knowledge of Avimark and ezyVet preferred, but not necessary.
