What Our Veterinary Technicians Do
As a Veterinary Technician, you'll play an important role in supporting our doctors and helping patients receive safe, compassionate, and efficient care.
Your responsibilities may include:
- Assisting doctors during examinations, treatments, and procedures
- Safely restraining pets in a way that allows necessary procedures to be completed with minimal stress
- Taking accurate patient histories and medical notes for the veterinarian
- Obtaining temperatures, samples, and vital signs as requested
- Drawing up vaccines and flea and tick preventives as directed
- Assisting with medication fills and refills at the veterinarian’s request
- Anticipating doctor needs during routine examinations and surgical visits
- Cleaning and preparing exam rooms for incoming patients in accordance with OSHA guidelines
- Following appropriate protocols related to infectious and zoonotic diseases
- Supporting measures designed to reduce or eliminate disease transmission
- Assisting with venipuncture, IV catheter placement, laboratory testing, radiology, and other technical procedures based on experience
- Supporting surgical and perioperative patient care based on skill level
- Occasionally assisting with our outdoor vaccine clinic
Experience with surgical technician responsibilities—including anesthetizing, maintaining, monitoring, and recovering patients perioperatively is a plus, but not required.
