Job Summary

The Quality Control Inspector / Quality Inspector is responsible for ensuring the integrity of steel fabrication processes and finished products by supporting the company’s Quality Management System (QMS) and quality assurance standards. This role is ideal for an experienced inspector or quality control inspector who can perform inspections of structural steel components, maintain warehouse materials, and uphold strict quality standards throughout production.

Responsibilities
  • Perform quality control inspections of in-process and finished structural steel components including beams, columns, plates, and clips.
  • Evaluate welds and fabrication work to ensure compliance with Quality Management System (QMS) and quality assurance standards.
  • Identify non-conforming materials or fabrication defects and communicate required corrections to production teams.
  • Perform visual inspections as a quality control inspector, using non-destructive testing (NDT) methods such as liquid penetrant testing when necessary. The inspector ensures that both in-process and finished components meet all quality assurance standards.
  • Measure and verify component dimensions using micrometers, tape measures, gauges, and other inspection tools.
  • Document inspection findings, including corrective actions, and maintain records for quality control reports and quality documentation.
  • Ensure materials and fabricated parts are properly marked and traceable throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Verify incoming materials meet procurement and quality assurance standards, including mill certifications and heat numbers.

  • Identify, tag, and manage non-conforming materials according to QMS procedures.
  • Assist with maintaining document control by scanning and uploading drawings and inspection records into facility systems.
  • Use mobile devices and internal systems to track materials and components according to quality control protocols.
  • Ensure updated drawings and revision documents are distributed to production teams while removing outdated versions.
  • Verify that production tools, inspection equipment, and measuring devices are properly calibrated.
  • Support collaboration between manufacturing, warehouse associates, and production teams to maintain quality assurance standards. Act as a quality inspector during production, shipping, and warehouse operations, ensuring all materials are verified and meet specifications.
  • Participate in meetings to review quality assurance performance and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain a safe working environment and follow all workplace safety and quality standards.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) during inspections.
  • Follow company policies, OSHA regulations, and workplace safety procedures.
  • Report accidents, hazards, or unsafe conditions to supervisors.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to meet manufacturing production and quality goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

    3) must be obtained within six months of hire.
  • Education: A technical degree in welding, steel materials, or a related field is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of quality control, quality assurance, and inspection processes in manufacturing and warehouse environments. Previous experience as a quality control inspector or quality inspector in a production or warehouse setting is highly desirable.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and fabrication specifications.
