Postdoctoral Research Associate — Design and synthesis of functional semiconductors and their application in water splitting devices

Department of Physics and the Stephenson Institute for Renewable Energy. The position involves developing functional semiconductors by polymer‑assisted deposition, including new van der Waals materials, ferroelectric semiconductors, and semiconductors for water‑splitting applications. These materials will be used to fabricate highly efficient water‑splitting devices, and operando XPS methods will be developed to characterise the same.

• Develop functional semiconductors and related materials.
• Fabricate water‑splitting devices and optimise their performance.
• Develop and apply operando XPS techniques for material characterisation.
• Collaborate with national and international partners, and mentor junior team members.
• Contribute to outreach activities to promote research in the field.

• PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Engineering, or a related field, or expected to complete a PhD within three months of the Final date to receive applications.
• Strong background in materials synthesis, device fabrication, or spectroscopic characterisation is desirable.

If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.

This post is fixed term until 31 October 2029.
