Job Summary
Senior Research Associate (Level
B) – 24 month fixed‑term, full time (35 hrs/week) – salary $127,947 base + 17% super plus leave loading.
Location:
Hybrid, Kensington, Sydney. This role reports to the Associate Professor and has no direct reports.
The Kirby Institute is a world‑leading health research institute at UNSW Sydney. It focuses on eliminating infectious diseases, especially through developing health solutions for at‑risk communities.
Responsibilities- Design, implement, analyse and disseminate clinical, epidemiological, and public health research on viral hepatitis, prison health, injecting drug use, and other priority populations.
- Lead end‑to‑end research initiatives – from study design and advanced statistical analyses to publishing findings.
- Conduct quantitative data analysis, manage large datasets, model statistics using Stata and/or R.
- Interpret findings, develop scientific manuscripts and oversee peer‑review processes.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and translate evidence into public health solutions.
- Work independently and as part of a team, receiving strategic mentorship.
- PhD in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, infectious diseases, or a closely related field, and/or relevant work experience.
- Advanced proficiency in quantitative data analysis, data management, statistical modelling using Stata and/or R.
- Proven ability to execute all stages of quantitative research with limited supervision.
- Experience analysing observational, surveillance, cohort, administrative, health services, or clinical research datasets.
- Track record of preparing manuscripts for peer‑review journals under limited supervision.
- Capacity to develop statistical analysis plans and conduct advanced quantitative analyses.
- Leadership in manuscript development, coordination of co‑authors, and responding to peer‑review comments.
