Position Summary

The Senior Research Fellow (Level C or

D) will play a key role within the Kirby Institute’s Viral Hepatitis Clinical Research Program, leading high‑quality research to improve the detection, prevention and treatment of viral hepatitis and drug user health. Reporting to the Deputy Program Head, the role leads the design and delivery of epidemiological studies, clinical effectiveness studies and clinical trials, while contributing to research excellence, competitive grant funding, and the translation of evidence into policy and practice.

  • A PhD in epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, infectious diseases, drug user health, or a closely related discipline, and equivalent research experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the design, conduct and analysis of epidemiological studies and/or clinical trials in infectious diseases, viral hepatitis, public health or drug user health.
  • Strong track record of high‑quality research outputs, including publications in peer‑reviewed journals and evidence of growing national research recognition.
  • Demonstrated experience in statistical analysis and management of complex clinical, epidemiological and/or linked administrative health datasets using software packages such as R, Stata, SAS or Python.
  • Demonstrated success, relative to opportunity, in obtaining competitive research funding and/or contributing to successful grant applications.

  • Experience working with health services, government agencies, community organisations and/or priority populations relevant to viral hepatitis and drug user health.
