Assistant Manager II

Overview

We’re seeking an Assistant Store Manager to help with store operations, customer service, and team development at Family Dollar. The role involves supporting day‑to‑day store activities and ensuring a positive retail environment.

• Assist with store functions and day‑to‑day activities
• Help customers in a positive, approachable manner and address any questions or concerns
• Organize merchandise from delivery truck to stockroom and sales floor; maintain seasonal areas
• Perform opening and closing procedures as needed
• Process all corporate directives, including Pull and Hold/Destroy, Task Compliance, Key Survey information requests, and other store communications
• Maintain promotional effectiveness of storefront fixtures and displays
• Assist in ordering merchandise, processing damaged items, and record keeping (payroll, scheduling, cash register deposits, receipts)
• Support loss prevention and keep store assets secure, including company cash
• Maintain areas of the store—well‑stocked sales floor and organized stockroom—to company standards
• Adhere to policies and procedures, including safety guidelines, and ensure all store associates follow company policies
• Supervise, train, and develop store associates
• Create a positive, safe, and respectful environment with professional and friendly interactions
• Maintain cleanliness throughout the store, including bathrooms, floors, and trash removal
• Perform other duties as assigned

• High school diploma or equivalent (preferred); ability to read, interpret, and explain operational directives (e.g., merchandise schematics) (required)
• Store management experience in retail, grocery, or drug store environment (preferred)
• Ability to lift up to 55 lbs. from floor to shoulder height and perform frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, climbing, pushing, pulling, and repetitive lifting
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and written skills (required)
• Ability to work in a high‑energy, team environment (required)
