The Texas Department of Transportation's Childress District is looking for a Permit Coordinator to work in our Traffic Operations Department. Responsibilities- Trains and instructs others in permit–related work.
- Develops and maintains technical and administrative procedures related to permitting activities.
- Coordinates with the Department of Motor Vehicles on permit changes, local routing issues, and up‑to‑date roadway changes for the transport of oversize/overweight loads on Texas highways.
- Consults with area engineer and/or maintenance supervisor on complex utility/driveway permit issues.
- Consults with engineering, maintenance, and right‑of‑way concerning compliance with the Utility Accommodation Policy (UAP).
- Coordinates movement of extra‑large loads with the Department of Motor Vehicles, maintenance, and other districts.
- Maintains permit documentation, records, and plan sets.
- Reviews applications, accepts payments, processes oversize/overweight permits, determines location of structures, and establishes construction procedures to minimize roadway disruption.
- Reviews and processes utility permit requests, applications, agreements, and plans to ensure compliance with UAP and other departmental requirements.
- Reviews and processes driveway permits and other various highway permits.
- Prepares and reviews correspondence and reports, monitors data related to permit activities and compliance.
- Conducts reviews of processed permits by other staff members to ensure accuracy and completeness in accordance with department guidelines.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.

Ability to
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Sedentary work:
Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools. - Light work:
Lift up to 20 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 10 lbs. - Standing: prolonged periods of time.
- Repetitive motion: substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Close visual acuity: work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading.
Education
- High School Graduate or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Work Experience
- 3 years permit and/or utility processing and/or coordination or related experience (experience can be satisfied by full‑time or prorated part‑time equivalent).
