Establish and administer security regulations and procedures to protect students, staff, and property. Ensure enforcement of federal, state, and local laws and coordinate with outside law enforcement agencies.
Responsibilities- Direct daily operations of the district police department.
- Coordinate enforcement activities with outside agencies, other department directors, and campus principals; develop and implement security programs, gang management plans, and safety initiatives.
- Investigate complaints and accusations against district police officers or staff.
- Ensure enforcement of laws and ordinances within the scope of board policy.
- Oversee investigation of criminal activities within district jurisdiction and support other agencies.
- Serve as district liaison to state and local law enforcement agencies; represent district on committees and task forces.
- Oversee the school guardian program.
- Develop safety procedures, including safe handling and use of firearms.
- Participate in district or campus behavioral threat assessment and supportive schools teams.
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Select, train, supervise, evaluate staff; make recommendations on assignment, retention, discipline, dismissal.
- Evaluate employee performance for effectiveness.
- Prepare, review, revise police department job descriptions.
- Maintain property room for storage of weapons and contraband.
- Compile and administer department budget; ensure cost-effectiveness.
- Compile, maintain, file reports, records, affidavits, incident reports, activity reports.
- Oversee development and implementation of multi-hazard emergency operations plan; ensure campus plans comply with standards.
- Compile, maintain, file reports, audits including DVA.
- Prepare and deliver written and oral presentations on security and safety issues to board, staff, community.
- Supervise, evaluate, recommend hiring/firing of police officers, security guards, and staff.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Texas Peace Officer license issued by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE).
- Successful completion of training required by Texas Education Code §96.641 and Texas Occupation Code § (initial chief training within two years of appointment).
- Valid Texas driver’s license.
- Fully commissioned police officer experience.
- Law enforcement experience in supervisory or command capacity.
- Requires use of district vehicle, firearm, handcuffs, alarm system, security equipment, two‑way radio.
- Prolonged sitting, standing, strenuous walking, frequent keyboard usage, driving.
