Primary Purpose:

Provide logistical and operational support in the planning, implementing, and supporting of school safety and security. Typical responsibilities include working with campuses to provide risk assessments/recommendations for threat analysis, along with providing operational readiness. Conducting in-house safety and security audits, implementing required mandates from the Texas School Safety Center, acting as a liaison between our campuses and local public safety, and assisting campuses with the planning and completion of emergency drills, including after-action reports.

Other responsibilities will include interacting with vendors and coordinating communications with campuses as it relates to safety and security. Work is performed under general supervision and within established district policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification/Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED required
• Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
• Security Officer commissioned by Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) or law enforcement, private security, or military experience, preferred
• A First Aid and CPR Certificate
• A clear criminal background check
• Clear and valid License to Carry through DPS
• Must be able to pass psychological exam
• Ability to attend and pass 80 hours of School Marshal training at the district's expense

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Ability to clearly and accurately record information
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Ability to work effectively with youths and adults
• Ability to communicate effectively

Experience:

3 years experience working in a public school or in law enforcement or military

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Safety and Security Operations

Patrol assigned campus(es) and/or district facilities, ensuring safety, monitoring student behavior, and enforcing school rules related to student conduct, vehicle operation, and parking.

Monitor security systems, including cameras and alarms, and watch for strangers or suspicious activity.

Protect the school and students against theft and property damage and assist in medical emergencies.

Conduct physical searches of students' property when warranted and ensure the safety of school administrators during such searches.

Operate all equipment, including firearms, according to established safety procedures and maintain and secure weapons at all times.

Student Behavior and Conflict Resolution

Break up fights and arguments and assist all parties in resolving conflicts.

Resolve confrontations between students and report disturbances to the principal or assistant principal.

Detain or arrest students who are violating laws related to drugs, weapons, or threats to school safety.

Remand students who commit lesser offenses to the principal or assistant principal.

Maintain positive relationships with students to prevent juvenile delinquency.

Work with counselors and support staff to assist students with conflict resolution and referrals to outside agencies as needed.

Traffic, Parking, and Event Supervision

Control traffic and parking on district grounds during school hours and at after-hours events.

Supervise special events and direct pedestrian and vehicle traffic as needed.

Register student vehicles and maintain accurate records of registration.

Coordinate with office personnel to notify students of vehicle-related issues.

Emergency Response and Law Enforcement Coordination

Assist law enforcement personnel as needed and serve as a liaison between campuses and local public safety agencies.

Notify police, fire department, or other appropriate authorities of situations requiring immediate attention.

Follow all district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Safety Planning and Compliance

Assist campuses and administration in developing risk assessments, safety recommendations, and threat analyses.
