Student Worker: SAFE WALK – East Texas A&M University
Under the direction of the Chief of University Police or appointed designee, the Safe Walk Student Employee (SWSE) will accompany students and staff to vehicles and other buildings during evening hours.
Responsibilities- Provide Safe Walks to students and staff as requested.
- Conduct Safe Walks only to the designated destination; no additional stops.
- Remain outside vehicles, buildings, or residential structures and do not use personal vehicles.
- Begin first pickup 15 minutes after shift start and last pickup before 11:45p.m.; hours may adjust to daylight.
- Minimum age of 17.
- Current undergraduate student at East Texas A&M University, enrolled at least half‑time with good academic and conduct record.
- Pass a background investigation including personal history, fingerprint‑based criminal history search, and a reference letter from a faculty or staff member.
- Pass an oral interview.
- Good verbal and written communication skills; ability to interact with students, faculty, and staff.
- Ability to use a cellular phone.
- Meet any additional requirements set by law or university policy, including those of the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, TX A&M University System, or FBI CJIS.
- Conviction or admission of any felony or Class A/B misdemeanor.
- Open disposition on any felony charge or Class A/B misdemeanor.
- Admission of marijuana use within the past two years or any other illegal drug within the past five years.
- Any conviction of family violence.
- Any history as a respondent to a protective order.
- Dishonorable or less than honorable military discharge.
- Work hours that coincide with scheduled university classes.
- Any student code of conduct or referral history from the East Texas A&M Police Department or other law‑enforcement agency.
Shift A:
Sun 7p.m.–12a.m.;
Mon 8p.m.–1a.m.;
Tues 8p.m.–1a.m. (alternating);
Wed 8p.m.–1a.m.;
Thurs 8p.m.–1a.m. Hours alternate: 10hrs one week, 15hrs the next week.
$10per hour.
Physical DemandsRegularly required to walk, stand, sit, and use hands to grasp a cell phone or other device; may occasionally lift or move up to 10pounds; requires vision and hearing sufficient to monitor surroundings.
Work EnvironmentThe assistant works in outdoor conditions on campus, with low to moderate noise, and may be exposed to weather.
Required DocumentsResume, copy of most recent ETAMU transcript, course schedule, letter of reference, military discharge papers (if applicable).
