Position InformationTxDOT's Leakey Maintenance Section is looking for a light/heavy Equipment Mechanic I or II to join the team. We're looking for an independent worker who has strong time management and task-prioritizing skills, communicates effectively, and enjoys problem solving in challenging situations.
The main duties of this position are mechanic-related, but there are opportunities to learn and assist the crew with roadway maintenance tasks as needed.

Work Schedule:
Mon - Thurs 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Equipment Mechanic II (A18): $3,793.41 - $5,921.25 monthly

Performs repair/maintenance and inspection related work for fleet vehicles and equipment in a District Maintenance Section. Work may require maintenance and repair of heavy equipment used in construction of highways/bridges and inspecting work performed by contracted vendors. Work may require contact with other governmental agencies and private contractors. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments, however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Theessential duties for the Equipment Mechanic I include:
- Adjusts brakes and replaces brake system parts to include air brake and anti-locking systems.
- Handles and disposes of environmentally hazardous materials in accordance with federal and state laws.
- Checks lighting and wiring mechanisms to ensure proper functioning of headlights, spotlights, tail lights and parking lights.
- Completes repair order paperwork and accurately enters data into fleet information management system.
- Maintains and repairs heavy equipment used in construction and maintenance of highways/bridges.
- Orders, picks up and delivers parts, materials, tools, and operates equipment and vehicles to include heavy equipment.
- Performs preventive maintenance, inspections and repairs on motor vehicles/equipment; as required moves items related to these activities.
- Troubleshoots, tests and repairs electrical systems, electronic ignitions and fuel injection systems.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Analyzes and interprets computerized diagnostic equipment information.
Performs quality assurance/analysis on repaired vehicles and equipment.
