The Fleet Service Technician handles in‑shop maintenance, repairs, and inspections of trucks used to transport equipment to jobsites. They diagnose issues, perform necessary repairs, and ensure fleet vehicles are safe, reliable, and compliant.

Essential Functions
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair all types of fleet vehicles
  • Routine cleaning, maintenance, safety checks, and inspections
  • Complete repairs, adjustments, and documentation as required
  • Report unsafe tools, vehicles, or conditions to the Manager
  • Maintain tools in compliance with OSHA and DOT standards
  • Use computer systems for work orders, parts lookup, and communication
  • Ensure fleet vehicles are reliable and jobsite‑ready
  • Handle in‑shop and occasional on‑site repairs and testing
  • Deliver accurate service reports and follow all company protocols
  • Operate vehicles safely and utilize field systems as needed
  • Collaborate with the team and share technical knowledge
  • Understand jobsite and driver needs, offering guidance when necessary
  • Participate in training and support fellow technicians as needed

Required

Education and Experience
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines and on‑highway trucks/trailers
  • Skilled in troubleshooting, testing, and repairing fleet vehicles
  • Own tools required
  • ASE T‑Series (Medium/Heavy Truck) certifications preferred
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Flexible with shifts and scheduling
  • Experience with Western Star, Freightliner, or Ford preferred
  • Welding experience a plus

Military service will be considered in lieu of education/certification experience as applicable.

Work Environment
  • Work is primarily conducted in construction sites, equipment yards, and transportation routes.
  • Regular exposure to heavy machinery and diesel‑powered equipment in operation.
  • Frequent outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
  • Physically demanding environment with uneven terrain, dust, mud, and loud noise levels.
  • Duties may involve both shop‑based tasks and fieldwork, including travel to remote job sites.
  • Strict adherence to safety protocols is required at all times.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as steel‑toe boots, safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection must be worn as needed.
  • Must be comfortable operating around large equipment, performing tasks in confined spaces, or working from elevated positions.
  • Lifting heavy components and materials is often required.
  • Flexibility and adaptability are essential, as job site conditions and priorities can change rapidly.
Travel Required
  • Required to travel to various locations for training classes/seminars
  • Drive to various vendors to acquire parts for assigned repairs
Physical Demands
  • Requires a high level of physical stamina and mobility to perform duties in jobsite and yard environments.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, and maneuvering of tools, chains, tarps, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds or more, often without assistance.
  • Regular bending, squatting, kneeling, crouching, and reaching to secure loads, inspect vehicles, or perform minor maintenance tasks.
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and working on foot, often on uneven terrain such as gravel, dirt, or pavement.
  • Climbing in and out of trucks, onto trailers, or occasionally onto equipment is required.
  • Must be able to work from various heights and maintain balance while performing tasks on steps, ladders, or platforms.
