Job SummaryPlan, lay-out, install, assemble and erect steel components in accordance with plans, specifications, codes and industry standards. May erect metal storage tanks and assemble prefabricated metal buildings.
Key Responsibilities- Use appropriate hand tools (hammer, wrench, socket-wrench) and power tools (cutting torch, air-trigger) to measure, cut, bend, thread, assemble, and erect steel and install related items in accordance with plans and specifications.
- Shakeout of steel into erectable sequence; rig steel members for crane hoisting with knowledge of crane signals; connect steel members; bolt-up connections; rack structure; plumb and square; torque bolts and use crane signals.
- Guide steel members into position using tag line; pull, push or pries steel members into approximate position while supported by crane; align holes in members for bolting together.
- Verify vertical and horizontal alignment using plumb bob and level; cut and weld members to make alterations using oxyacetylene welding equipment.
- Move structural steel into approximate positions for bolting; participate in safety processes and programs as requested.
- Engage with the work team to achieve zero injuries; prioritize safety and do not compromise safety.
- Watch for hazards and report concerns to supervisor or safety professional; use stop-work authority if needed; report accidents and near misses.
- Participate in pre-job work planning and safety discussions; identify and mitigate safety hazards; follow lockout/tagout procedures.
- Attend site-specific training and follow procedures as outlined; maintain a safe and clean work environment; use effective verbal and written communication.
- Read and understand plans and specifications, including steel inventories; coordinate work with other crafts and workers; provide on-the-job training and mentoring as needed.
- Visualize two-dimensional drawings in three dimensions; understand contract plans and specifications; plan, lay out, install and erect steel components in accordance with those plans and specifications.
Preferred Qualifications
- One of the following: NCCER Rigger, NCCER Ironworker, NCCER Welding
At least 4 years of experience as an ironworker or similar craft, with strong knowledge of the ironworker craft. Experience in erection of steel structures. Working knowledge of structural welding, cutting torches, and all aspects of the ironworker craft. Must have all necessary tools. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records) as required by law.

Physical Demands:
- Lift and carry heavy items up to 50 pounds.
- Stand, kneel, bend, stoop, move in and around confined and cluttered spaces; see and hear with or without correction.

- Climb and maintain balance on steel framework, stairs, ladders and scaffolds.
- Work up to a 12-hour shift in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
- Work in cramped spaces and awkward positions; exposure to hot or cold environments and inclement weather.
- Exposure to loud noises and working around hazardous equipment.
- This position is considered a safety-sensitive role.
