Position: Crusoe -0958 - Carpenter - Foreman
Location: Claude

Overview

Direct and supervise the planning, layout, installation of forms, rebar, embeds and anchor bolts for installation of concrete structures in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards. Plan and coordinate the efforts of the lead men and craft workers under his/her supervision and motivate them to accomplish the work safely, correctly and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform all of the principal duties and accountabilities of craft workers under his/her supervision.
  • Lead and support all safety related processes and programs; engage with work team to achieve zero injuries; understand scheduling, material control and unit man-hour performance reporting.
  • Become familiar with the Field Progress Management System (FPMS).
  • Create and execute a one week schedule; set and execute crew goals based on project unit rates; review crew timecards for correct hours and phase coding.
  • Report all accidents and near misses to supervisor; participate in investigation process; review accidents and causes with employees.
  • Lead, complete, and sign off on daily pre-job safety planning in the appropriate format; identify safety hazards; take required corrective actions.
  • Ensure crew members understand, participate, and sign all pre-job safety planning tools.
  • Understand and respond to all safety hazards and warning devices.
  • Support lockout/tag out procedures; attend site specific training.
  • Communicate effectively with written and verbal skills.
  • Provide on-the-job training to individuals under supervision; train safety practices, policies and procedures related to assigned tasks.
  • Plan and communicate with supervisor to ensure tools, materials, and equipment are available.
  • Gain complete understanding of scope of work, related parts of project; develop thorough understanding of project plans, specifications and schedule.
  • Conduct toolbox meetings; communicate safety concerns, work scope, plans and schedules to crews.
  • Participate in quantity report collection; assure quality of work; inspect subordinate's work for compliance.
  • Point out deficiencies, explain them, and take corrective action.
  • Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards; take corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure construction equipment is correctly operated, maintained, and in good working order; complete daily equipment inspections.
  • Complete performance reviews of craft workers according to Craft Performance Assessment (CPA) Guidelines.
  • Ensure subordinates are qualified to perform their work as at their level.
Management Responsibilities

Provide leadership, safety, quality and productivity excellence for the crew.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a supervisor.
  • Certifications:

    NCCER Concrete Finishing, NCCER Carpenter, NCCER Reinforcing Ironwork, NCCER Rigger, NCCER Scaffolding, NCCER Fundamentals of Crew Leadership, NCCER Project Supervision, NCCER Project Management.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a Journeyman; experience working as a Carpenter, Concrete Finisher, Rod buster, or similar craft; strong working knowledge of civil/concrete crafts.
  • Experience in erection of all types of concrete structures.
  • Working knowledge of auto-level and transit; fabrication and erection of steel framed forms (e.g., Symons); rebar placement and tying; placing, finishing and sealing concrete.
  • Must set standards of excellence in leadership, safety, quality and productivity for crew members.
  • Must have necessary tools (Industrial Carpenter tool list).
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (criminal/civil background check, drug screen, motor vehicle records search).
Work Environment / Physical Demands

Physical Demands:
Lift and carry heavy items up to 50 lbs; stand, kneel, bend, stoop; use hands to handle objects; repetitive movement; climb steel framework, stairs, ladders, scaffolds; work up to a 12 hour shift in varying temperatures.

Work Environment:
Typical construction site environment; cramped spaces; hot or cold temperatures; dust, wind, snow, rain exposure; bright or inadequate lighting; noise; hazardous equipment; safety sensitive position.
