Job Opportunities

The City of Granite Shoals is seeking a dependable and skilled Streets Maintenance Technician to perform construction, maintenance, and repair of City streets, rights-of-way, drainage systems, and related infrastructure. This is a hands-on position requiring experience with road maintenance, equipment operation, and general labor. The ideal candidate works safely, takes pride in quality workmanship, and supports efficient public services for residents.

The following duties are representative and not all-inclusive.

Street & Road Maintenance
  • Perform maintenance and repair of City streets, alleys, and rights-of-way including pothole repair, asphalt and concrete patching, grading, and blading.
  • Assist with road base preparation, compaction, and surface repairs.
  • Perform traffic control setup including barricades, cones, and signage.
Drainage & Right-of-Way Maintenance
  • Clean and maintain ditches, culverts, storm drains, and drainage structures.
  • Assist with installation and replacement of culverts and drainage pipe.
  • Remove debris, vegetation, and obstructions from rights-of-way.
Signs & Traffic Devices
  • Install, repair, and maintain street signs, posts, guardrails, and pavement markings.
  • Inspect signage for visibility and damage and report or correct deficiencies.
Equipment Operation & Maintenance
  • Safely operate and maintain equipment such as motor graders, dump trucks, rollers, skid steers, tractors, backhoes, and compactors.
  • Operate hand and power tools including jackhammers, saws, compactors, and concrete tools.
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and preventive maintenance.
General Labor & Support
  • Assist with emergency response, storm cleanup, and disaster recovery efforts.
  • Perform general labor duties including lifting, shoveling, digging, and material handling.
  • Assist other Public Works divisions as assigned.
Safety & Public Interaction
  • Follow all City safety policies, OSHA standards, and traffic control procedures.
  • Interact professionally with the public and respond courteously to inquiries.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of basic street maintenance, road construction, and repair methods.
  • Ability to safely operate street maintenance equipment and tools.
  • Understanding of traffic control and work zone safety.
  • Ability to follow instructions, read work orders, and complete tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and attention to safety.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 1–3 years of experience in street maintenance, construction, public works, or a related field.
  • Valid Texas Class C driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and able to complete Form I-9 as required by federal law.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience operating heavy equipment such as motor graders, backhoes, or rollers.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or ability to obtain within a specified timeframe.
  • Experience working for a municipality or public-sector organization.

Work Environment Requirements
  • Requires frequent moderate to strenuous physical activity.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and working outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Exposure to traffic, noise, dust, heat, cold, and construction hazards.
