Heavy Fleet Mechanic
Job Summary
A Heavy Fleet Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, including trucks, trailers, construction equipment, and diesel-powered machinery. The role ensures fleet vehicles operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance and scheduled inspections on heavy fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and engine-related issues.
- Repair and replace defective components, including engines, transmissions, brakes, steering systems, suspensions, and drive trains.
- Conduct computerized diagnostics using specialized testing equipment and software.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
- Perform welding, fabrication, and component rebuilding as needed.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company maintenance procedures.
- Respond to roadside breakdowns and emergency repairs when required.
- Inspect vehicles to ensure compliance with transportation and safety standards.
- Order and manage replacement parts and inventory.
- Collaborate with fleet managers and operators to identify maintenance needs.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification in diesel mechanics or heavy equipment repair preferred.
- Proven experience repairing and maintaining heavy-duty trucks, trailers, or construction equipment.
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and diagnostic tools.
- Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and repair documentation.
- Valid driver's license (CDL preferred).
- Ability to lift heavy equipment and work in various weather conditions.
- Ability to travel as required with the potential of overnights.

- Computerized diagnostic systems proficiency.
- Strong problem-solving and attention to detail.

- Stand, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces for extended periods.
