Maintenance Technician

• Inspects and/or repairs chlorine machine, booster pumping stations, reservoirs, meters, streets, drainage systems and sewer systems at frequent intervals to ensure that all aspects of the systems are functioning properly.
• Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections, maintenance activity, water supply, consumption, etc.
• Determines the locations of gas, telephone, power, television, water, and sewer lines from the appropriate sources prior to excavation.
• Responds to complaints regarding water, wastewater, and road problems; evaluates situation; explains findings to supervisor.
• Contacts residents and business owners in areas where services will be discontinued and explains when services will be shut off and how soon they will be turned back on.
• Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment/tools and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment.
• Operates light and medium‑sized vehicles, construction, and power equipment, such as mechanized broom, jetter/inductor truck, backhoe/loader, excavators, skid steers, man‑lift, dump truck and snowplows.
• Operates jackhammers, mowers and other small equipment and tools to maintain street and utility systems.
• Performs required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including but not limited to pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying and back filling, installation, and maintenance of traffic control devices.
• Performs all duties in strict compliance with appropriate safety and security standards. Ensures all applicable safety and health rules and regulations are followed. Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times and streamline work processes.
• Participates in the accomplishment of organizational, departmental and workgroup goals and objectives. Exhibits a high‑level service orientation toward customers and maintains productive working relationships.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned.
