Job Summary The Powerline Groundman supports line crews in the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead electrical distribution and transmission systems. This is an entry-level to intermediate field position responsible for performing essential ground support duties, ensuring job sites are prepared, materials and tools are available, and work is completed safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, dependable, and eager to learn the powerline trade.

Key Responsibilities Ground Support & Line Assistance Assist linemen and equipment operators with overhead line construction, maintenance, and repair activities.

Handle, organize, and stage tools, materials, conductors, and hardware at job sites.

Assist with pole setting, conductor stringing, hardware installation, and other line construction tasks as directed.

Site Preparation & Cleanup Prepare work areas by setting up traffic control, barricades, and safety zones.

Perform job site cleanup, including removal of debris, excess materials, and unused equipment.

Safety Compliance Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.

Participate in Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), tailgate meetings, and hazard identification activities.

Maintain situational awareness around energized lines, moving equipment, and elevated work.

Equipment & Material Handling Assist with loading, unloading, and securing materials and equipment.

Operate hand tools, power tools, and basic equipment under supervision.

Support equipment operators by signaling, spotting, and guiding equipment movement when required.

Storm & Emergency Response Assist with emergency response and storm restoration efforts.

Work extended hours, nights, weekends, or holidays as required to restore service safely.

Training & Development Learn powerline construction methods, safety practices, and industry standards.

Participate in training programs and on-the-job learning to advance toward higher classifications.

Documentation & Communication Communicate effectively with crew members, foremen, and supervisors.

Assist with basic documentation and reporting as required.

Qualifications and Education Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required.

Previous construction, utility, or outdoor labor experience preferred but not required.

Strong commitment to safety and willingness to follow instructions.

Ability to perform physically demanding work in outdoor environments.

Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required.

Ability to successfully pass a background check, pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check.

Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including remote or rugged terrain.

Ability to work rotating schedules, extended hours, and emergency call-outs as required.

Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn.

Ability to work independently when assigned or as part of a crew.

Basic communication skills and ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Work Environment This position is field-based and performed outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Exposure to construction zones, uneven terrain, heavy equipment, and energized electrical systems.

This is a full-time position with work hours that may vary based on operational needs.

Physical Demands The physical demands described below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this role:

Prolonged standing, walking, climbing, bending, stooping, and manual handling of materials.

Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing up to 100 pounds.

Ability to work near energized equipment and around moving machinery.

Ability to perform strenuous physical activity for extended periods.

Travel Regular travel within a designated service area is expected, with occasional extended travel as required.
