Job SummaryThe primary purpose of this position is to resolve facility maintenance issues in state-owned buildings within the Division of Highways and Division of Motor Vehicles that are managed by the Facilities Management Division. The employee works under the direction of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.
Responsibilities- Resolve facility maintenance issues in state-owned buildings.
- Apply knowledge of building codes and perform at the journey level in at least two trades (electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, masonry, or plastering).
- Work at other facilities as directed by the Supervisor or lead mechanic.
- Provide unscheduled overtime during building emergencies.
- Be available for emergency or after-hours call back, including weekends and holidays.
- Remain present at work during inclement weather conditions.
- Working knowledge of methods, practices, tools, and materials used in general maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery.
- Knowledge of maintenance techniques in electrical, HVAC, carpentry, drywall, roofing, locks, windows, plumbing, and mechanical equipment.
- Experience supervising the work of skilled or semi-skilled contractors.
- Ability to read blueprints and estimate repair values.
- Experience using a computer to prepare and maintain routine records and reports.
High school or GED diploma and two years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special RequirementsMay require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III, or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart
F.
Grade NC09: $41,206 - $72,113
