Job Summary
This is an entry level apprentice position. The duties are to assist in performing service work involved with the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities; drive and operate line trucks and associated auxiliary equipment. Assist in responding to trouble calls, investigate, correct, and clear trouble, and provide assistance to construction and repair crews, as required.
Responsibilities- Perform duties in accordance with the Company's safety rules, regulations and practices and report unsafe conditions.
- During the first six months, demonstrate the ability to operate company equipment, climb poles and structures, and work on de-energized conductors and equipment.
- Under immediate supervision of a higher classification, may work secondary voltage up to 260 volts.
- After six months, may work on conductors and equipment energized up to 260 volts under general supervision and may also work higher secondary voltages under immediate supervision.
- Assist with the installation and removal of structures within close proximity of energized primary conductors, under immediate supervision.
- Assemble, install, maintain, remove and inspect conductors, fixtures and other associated equipment on de-energized overhead and underground facilities, and erect equipment mountings such as regulator and transformer platforms.
- Climb poles and structures and work from bucket trucks or on ladders and demonstrate ease above the ground in performance of work.
- Operate mechanized equipment required to install, remove or maintain overhead and underground transmission and distribution facilities.
- Become familiar with the use and care of insulating rubber gloves, sleeves and other personal protective equipment.
- Assist with loading, unloading, handling, maintaining, installing and removing poles, towers and structures.
- Operate portable power tools, generators, pumps and tamps.
- Install, maintain, read and remove single-phase meters and associated equipment; set meter bases for voltage, backfeed, grounds and proper connections.
- Install, maintain and remove services, secondary cable, and associated equipment.
- Install, maintain and remove dusk-to-dawn and street light equipment.
- Set and remove barricades, flags, signs and flares; direct pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
- Load, unload and store materials, tools and equipment.
- Assist with the installation, removal and maintenance of underground facilities.
- Maintain tools, equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition.
- Become familiar with electronic devices to maintain records and submit reports, and job aid programs as required.
- Attend and participate in training as assigned and assist in the training of other employees.
- Perform similar or less skilled work.
- Report irregularities and abnormal conditions.
- Assist employees of equal or higher classification.
- High School graduate or General Equivalency Degree (GED).
- No previous work experience required.
- Line or Service Mechanic Certification is beneficial but not required.
- Line work experience or line school education is preferred.
- Valid state driver license.
- Employee shall obtain appropriate licensing (CDL) as required by federal and/or state law prior to the end of the designated probationary period.
- Pre-Employment tests:
Hire Vue Lineworker Physical demand level is Heavy. - Must acquire necessary knowledge and skills to perform duties of Service Mechanic A within the time frame determined by the Company, and be qualified through demonstration, examination and/or performance appraisal.
- Must possess ability to deal with employees, customers and the public in a courteous and proper manner.
- Must have the ability to use a computer and electronic devices and write legibly and record accurately.
- Must be able to distinguish colors.
- Must have the ability to work aloft on poles, towers and structures, use various tools, and operate equipment and finger manipulation of bolts/screws, tolerate awkward or stretched positions while working aloft and suspended from a safety belt.
- Must be able to work at heights of up to 250 feet.
- Must be able to lift 75 lbs. overhead.

Range: $30.60 - $31.32
The Physical Demand Level for this job is: H - Heavy Work:
Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10-20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
