Brief Description
CAMS Renewable Services LLC is hiring a Battery Storage System (BESS) Technician with knowledge of electrical systems, sub‑station maintenance, and grid‑scale battery energy storage systems. The BOP Technician will perform substation preventative maintenance, troubleshoot high‑voltage systems, and prepare and submit quality reports on site conditions in the Ft. Stockton, TX area. Excellent work ethic, communication, and documentation skills are required.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Perform all work in a safe manner and in compliance with company safety policies.
- Manage inspections, records, and outages (planned and unplanned).
- Maintain monthly reporting and prepare reports to satisfy O&M contract deliverables.
- Provide on‑site support during site BESS construction and commissioning.
- Conduct substation and medium‑voltage equipment inspections.
- Execute high‑voltage electrical work, including managing and executing outages to support construction activities.
- Plan and complete daily work orders within an 8‑hour shift without overtime.
- Participate in special projects such as pre‑commissioning, stage additions, and substation inspections.
- Abide by safe clearance procedures and wear proper high‑voltage PPE.
- Represent the company in meetings with regulatory inspectors and other contractors.
- Perform electrical testing and preventive/ corrective maintenance of components.
- Attend training sessions on manufacturer‑provided equipment.
- Use equipment and resources according to company instructions and maintain good housekeeping practices.
- Travel up to 20% overnight within the United States.
- Electrical Technology Diploma or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in substations (gas circuit breakers, air switches).
- Texas electrical license desired but not required.
- NFPA 70E, Substation Maintenance training certification.
- Must be able to commute to the project site near Ft. Stockton, TX, daily.
- Flexibility to work weekends and be available on call.
- Thermal scans and oil sampling proficiency.
- Operate test equipment such as oscilloscopes, power quality meters, insulation resistance testers, high‑potential testers, phase sticks, phase rotation meters, and other electrical test and fault‑finding equipment.
- Perform routine installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of equipment in high‑voltage switchyards, substations, and power operations centers.
- OSHA 10 – General Industry or Construction certified and CPR certified before starting work; CAMS may provide assistance for these courses.
- Qualified as a person per NESC, NEC, NFPA 70F.
- Perform regular field inspections, investigations, or surveys requiring substantial physical activity.
- Obtain fluid analysis from oil‑filled transformers per ASTM guidelines.
- Construct/install/maintain cable trays, high‑voltage cable terminations, grounding grids, underground duct banks, and control wiring for electrical equipment.
- Read and comprehend electrical and mechanical schematics, technical manuals, procedures, and regulations.
- Experience in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting systems preferred; related experience is acceptable.
- Excellent organization, communication, analytical, planning, time‑management, and customer‑service skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record, as the position involves use of a company vehicle. Candidates should be comfortable driving in inclement weather and meet all company and insurance requirements.
