Maintenance Specialist II
Posting – Salary $2,953.25 – $4,365.66 per month

- Attends work on a regular basis and may work a rotating schedule, extended shift, and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy.
- Performs inspections, adjustments, maintenance and repair work on building systems in accordance with recognized codes and standards for various trades such as plumbing, HVAC, welding, carpentry, painting and electrical.
- Uses hand tools, power tools, test and safety equipment as necessary to perform needed repairs, renovations and installations.
- Accurately processes and maintains records on work orders, projects and material requisitions.
- May operate heavy machinery such as backhoes and forklifts as necessary.
- May train others on the proper procedures and methods for repairs or inspections.
- Participates in supporting roles for disaster response, recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation when required.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of building maintenance, plumbing, HVAC, sanitation, refrigeration and/or electrical systems.
- Knowledge of industrial safety, fire and safety regulations.
- Skill in preventive maintenance and inspections of buildings and building systems.
- Skill in the use of hand tools, power tools and equipment.
- Ability to perform maintenance, follow instructions, and interpret drawings, schematics or sketches.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally or in writing with other members of the maintenance/facility team.
- High School graduate, GED or relevant work experience such as masonry, carpentry, painting, performing repairs, renovations or routine preventative maintenance to buildings or residential homes.
- Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license or obtain one no later than 90 days after hire date; an out‑of‑state driver’s license requires an original certified driving record.
- All applicants must be at least 18 years of age and willing to work overtime, extended hours, weekends and holidays.
- Must meet all Texas driver’s license or equivalent requirements in accordance with HHSC Fleet Management policy.
- Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE).
- Males aged 18 – 25 must be registered with the Selective Service.
- All State Supported Living Center employees are subject to random drug testing.
