Aerial Mosquito Control Aircraft Technician

Summary:

Services, maintains and repairs aircraft used in aerial mosquito control program in Jefferson County.

Essential Job Functions:

Services and repairs aircrafts used by the Jefferson County Mosquito Control Department; performs routine preventative maintenance; confers with pilots regarding problems with aircraft. Performs authorized inspections of aircraft at required intervals. Services aircraft spray equipment; calibrates spray systems; inspects chemical filters weekly; dismantles, cleans, and reassembles spray systems. Prepares aircraft for spraying operations; cleans and shuts down equipment after spraying. Maintains inventory of aircraft supplies and parts used regularly;

locates, orders and picks up parts as needed. Submits monthly reports; assists with maintenance of aircraft facilities and loading systems. Completes all forms, logs and records required by insurance company, F.A.A., E.P.A. and other agencies. Obtains annual recertification for Inspection Authorization's License; stays current with aircraft laws and maintenance procedures. Attends annual refresher courses in chemical handling procedures; aircraft safety operations;

drivers safety course. Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position. Other

Education & Experience:

High school diploma or GED; mechanical and technical skills and knowledge obtained by specialized training in aircraft mechanics or aeronautics, minimum of 5 years of related job experience and on-the-job training in aerial application aircraft systems.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
Verbal and written communication skills; ability to read and understand technical repair and installation manuals; math calculation skills; problem solving skills; interpersonal skills necessary to interact and cooperate with co-workers and deal effectively with vendors and suppliers; analytical skills. Specialized Requirements:
Valid Texas Drivers License;
Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic License required;
Inspection Authorization Inspector's License preferred. Equipment Used:
Tools to service and repair aircraft and spraying equipment; electronic test equipment for aircraft systems; truck; general office equipment as needed. Work Situations/Demands/Efforts:
Job requires organizing; prioritizing; accuracy; attention to detail; working alone and as part of a group; flexibility in order to perform a variety of duties; performing routine, repetitive duties; dealing with emergency situations; driving trucks; operating machinery. Employee works independently within established guidelines and time frame; requires assistance only with unusual, non-routine problems and situations; irregular hours; occasional out-of-town travel.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed primarily in an aircraft hangar. Employee is subject to adverse weather and environmental conditions, including temperature extremes, humidity, and precipitation; noise and vibration from heavy equipment; physical hazards and safety hazards; adverse atmospheric conditions from dust, fumes and chemicals. Clerical functions are performed in a climate controlled office environment.

Physical Requirements:

Job duties require occasional very heavy work such as moving aircraft parts or other objects in excess of 100 lbs. by lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling. Job duties also require moving aircraft in or out of hangers by pushing or pulling; reaching, to open and close hanger doors; climbing and balancing to work on aircraft from ladders; walking; prolonged standing; high degree of stamina;
